As a long-time fan of the Cooper family saga, I must admit that George’s absence has been a bit like a missing puzzle piece in the grand scheme of things. His charm, wit, and fatherly wisdom have been sorely missed since his untimely departure from our screens.
We’ve repeated ourselves numerous times, but it’s clear that something is missing in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage without George. Interestingly, the makers of Young Sheldon are considering a posthumous comeback for the character.
Reflecting on it, it seems just as if yesterday and long ago that we witnessed George’s passing, culminating in a heartrending funeral at the end of Young Sheldon Season 7. Although he is no longer physically with us, his essence continues to thrive in the latest offshoot of the franchise.
After completing five episodes, it’s become a regular practice for the eldest son, Georgie, to pay a visit to his father’s grave whenever life becomes overwhelming. He finds solace in talking things over when no one else is around, and by the end of Episode 5, he brings both Mary and Missy along with him.
However, there’s been a statement from the makers of the new TV series regarding George, the ghost character. They haven’t ruled out his potential return… it might just happen!
Steve Holland, one of the co-creators, shared with TV Line, “Well, it really depends on the situation. We would never want to reverse anything we’ve done because we’re very proud of the Young Sheldon finale. However, if a suitable method presented itself…?
“Chuck [Lorre] mentioned that he’s been dreaming about his father for thirty years, even though he lost him long ago. If we can find an authentic emotional motivation for Georgie, and bring George Sr. back in a way that feels genuine, not like a gimmick, and handle it sensitively, it would be wonderful to have Lance return to the show.
Regarding Lance Barber, he shares the same sentiment. In an interview with TopMob, he expressed his readiness for a posthumous appearance, but emphasized that it must be executed tastefully.
He said he’d welcome the proposal, as it would be quite an honor for him, as long as it doesn’t undermine their current standing.
As a gamer, if the creators chose to bring back the ghost of George Cooper, they’d do it in a thoughtful and elegant manner, not as a cheap stunt to boost viewership. If they can pull that off, I’d definitely give it a chance. Otherwise, I’m pretty content with how things are now.
As a devoted fan, I’m reminded that a surprise appearance by George, out of his usual timeline, has already happened in the series. This makes the idea of bringing back Leonard’s father, Alfred Barber, seem less far-fetched. Fans might recall the Season 12 episode titled ‘The VCR Illumination’ on The Big Bang Theory, where Sheldon watches archival footage of George at Medford High – a glimpse into the past that hints at the possibility of time-jumping characters.
In this instance, the scenes shown were uniquely created for the specific episode, not taken from earlier episodes as a sequel. It appears that this method could be used for George’s potential return, should it come to pass.
Hey Gamers! Don’t miss out on the latest drama unfolding in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, airing weekly on CBS. To keep up with the action, catch up on my recaps for Episodes 1, 2, 3, and 4 before tuning into the newest installment. Let’s dive back in and see how their story unfolds!
