As a dedicated Elden Ring player with countless hours under my belt, I can confidently say that Richard Lintern’s portrayal of Igon was nothing short of exceptional. The emotions he conveyed through his voice acting were so raw and authentic that I found myself fully immersed in the character’s story. It was like experiencing a rollercoaster of feelings, from heart-wrenching sorrow to boisterous laughter, all thanks to Igon’s captivating dialogue.
At The Game Awards, the list of nominees has been unveiled, igniting conversations among enthusiasts. A significant portion of these discussions revolves around Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree being nominated for Game of the Year, even though it is a DLC expansion. However, another topic of debate has arisen as well.
A significant number of fans have expressed their dissatisfaction as the exceptional character, Igon, from the DLC expansion, along with his voice actor, Richard Lintern, were not recognized in the Best Performance category. Let me elaborate further on this issue.
Elden Ring Fans Debate TGA Best Performance Nominees, Claiming Igon Deserved Recognition
At The Game Awards (TGA), the candidates for Best Performance are Briana White, Hannah Telle, Humberly González, Luke Roberts, and Melina Juergens, all lauded for their work in some of this year’s most notable gaming titles. But, fans are stirred up about the oversights, particularly concerning Igon from Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Many feel that Richard Lintern, Igon’s voice actor, was unfairly left out and should have been included among the nominees. (Curses to Bayle for this injustice!)

On the bustling Elden Ring subreddit, user Ayanelixer expressed intense feelings with their post, “SHAME ON YOU GAME AWARDS!” followed by, “This character in particular has stirred up such raw emotions in me, taking away Richard’s possessions was just awful.” Though many users sympathized with this viewpoint, some chose a more balanced approach.
One user expressed, “I found his acting exceptional, yet it might not be just to nominate him considering the screen time he had compared to others – he was barely in the spotlight.” Another concurred, “Great observation indeed. Exceptional performance, alas, portrayed as a non-playable character in the game. I’m content with him missing out on the nomination.” Indeed, we share similar thoughts.
Despite Igon’s famous lines being deeply etched in our memory, and my ability to recite his entire script by heart, his performance doesn’t seem to outshine the others due to a lack of substantial dialogues or character interactions that would warrant such recognition compared to the other nominees.
Still, this goes to show that making a character memorable or beloved doesn’t always require lengthy dialogue trees. A good performance sells the character for what they are, and in my opinion, Richard Lintern nailed it, maybe even better than the other nominees.
That said, if we’re considering the overall performance, the other actors probably do deserve their spots. But wouldn’t it be awesome if TGA introduced an Honorable Mention category? Giving Igon and Richard Lintern their moment in the spotlight would be incredible.
Until that moment arrives, I’ll be patiently biding my time. Whether it’s anticipation for an “Expansion of the Year” award to address the DLC/Game of the Year conundrum or hope for a chance to acknowledge the underappreciated hero like Igon, who valiantly fought against the wicked Bayle.
