‘The Mehta Boys,’ ‘The Rana Daggubati’ Show to Give Prime Video Prominent Position in Goa

As a fervent admirer of Indian cinema, I am positively thrilled to witness the Asian premiere of Boman Irani’s directorial debut, “The Mehta Boys,” at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Having grown up watching Boman’s captivating performances on the silver screen, it is a delight to see him stepping into the director’s chair and bringing a heartfelt story to life.

The film “The Mehta Boys” starring Boman Irani is set to have its Asian debut this weekend at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, making it one of the rare instances where it will be shown in a theater before becoming available on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.

During the upcoming festival, the company will assert more notable spots, featuring the world debut of their unscripted Telugu series titled “The Rana Daggubati Show” on November 22, a workshop-style discussion offering tips and tricks on the same day, and a captivating musical performance at the festival’s grand finale on November 28.

In a powerful dramatic turn, “The Mehta Boys,” directed by Irani for the first time, delves into the intricate and tumultuous relationship between a father and son, who are forced to spend 48 hours together amidst difficult situations. This film premiered at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival in September and was honored with the award for Best Feature Film.

At the IFFI screening, attendees will include actress Irani, along with actors Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and Puja Sarup. Also present will be writer Alexander Dinelaris Jr., as well as producer Danesh Irani.

Titled “The Rana Daggubati Show,” this eight-part series is presented and produced by the renowned South Indian actor, Rana Daggubati (known for “Bahubaali” and “Vettaiyan”). Under his production company, Spirit Media, it’s positioned as a novel take on the conventional celebrity talk show.

The upcoming show will have its premiere at the festival on Thursday, and then move to Prime Video on November 23rd. New episodes will be released every Saturday from that date. Notable guests expected for the show include Dulquer Salmaan, Naga Chaitanya Akkineni, Nani, Rishab Shetty, Siddhu Jonnalagadda along with Sreeleela, and a duo of S.S. Rajamouli and Ram Gopal Varma.

Performers Nikita Gandhi, Digvijay Singh Pariyar, Mame Khan, and additional musicians from “Bandish Bandits” Season 2 are set to engage in a dual performance known as Jugalbandi during the conclusion of IFFI (International Film Festival of India).

Besides the lead actors Ritwik Bhowmik and Shreya Chaudhary, the producer Amritpal Singh Bindra, director Anand Tiwari, and Nikhil Madhok, who is in charge of originals at Prime Video India, will also be present at the event. The live musical performance will culminate with a sneak peek of the show.

At a unique gathering during IFFI, Shilangi Mukherji, the head of SVOD at Prime Video India, is set to speak before the audience. Meanwhile, Manish Menghani, the content licensing director, will participate in a panel discussion on Fridays, titled “Granting the Green Light: Strategies for Film and Series Creators.

I’m part of an engaging dialogue alongside esteemed professionals such as Jyoti Deshpande, CEO of Viacom18, Nikhil Advani, a renowned filmmaker, Shobha Sant, CEO of Creativeland Studios, and Richie Mehta, another distinguished filmmaker who is moderating the discussion. It’s an honor to be in their company!
