Friends of Sally Kirkland Start GoFundMe for Veteran Actor Facing Health Crisis While Fighting Life-Threatening Illnesses

As a long-time admirer of Sally Kirkland‘s illustrious career spanning decades, it is heartbreaking to learn about her current struggles. This actress, who brought Anna to life so brilliantly and earned an Oscar nomination for her efforts, now finds herself in a precarious situation due to circumstances beyond her control.

A group of Sally Kirkland’s friends set up a GoFundMe campaign in her name, aiming to collect $65,000 towards her recent medical expenses. The actress, who was once nominated for an Academy Award, has suffered from four fractures in her neck, wrist, and hip over the past year, as stated on the GoFundMe page. During her recovery period, she encountered two potentially fatal infections, which she is now trying to find the proper treatment for.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve always admired the exceptional talent that is Kirkland. In 1988, she graced our screens in the captivating film “Anna,” a performance so remarkable it earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. With a career spanning back to the ’60s, Kirkland has been a part of over 300 cinematic endeavors, each one adding another layer to her legendary status in the world of film.

The GoFundMe account mentions that Kirkland suffered a loss of funds, which included earnings from “Anna” and her existing investments, as a result of the 2007-2008 economic downturn.

2021 saw SAG-AFTRA discontinue the supplemental insurance, which previously acted as Medigap coverage for its members aged 65 and above. Consequently, this actress now finds herself without insurance coverage for her illness, leaving her at a critical juncture in managing her health issue.

Last year, I unfortunately suffered a series of severe injuries – fractures in my neck, right wrist, and hip on the left side. To make matters worse, during my recovery, I contracted two separate life-threatening infections. The cumulative impact of these injuries and infections necessitated extended hospital stays and rehabilitation beyond the 100 days covered by insurance. (GoFundMe campaign)

The fundraising event was orchestrated by friends Paige Dylan, Coty Galloway, and Mel England, expressing gratitude, optimism, and affection. They portray their friend as a nurturing figure who provides comfort, guidance, and love when it mattered the most. To those who know Sally on a personal level, she has been an endless wellspring of generosity, kindness, and indomitable spirit.
