Netflix, Amblin and Obama-Backed Higher Ground Win Heated Auction for New S.A. Cosby Book ‘King of Ashes’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for unraveling intricate narratives, I must say that this latest development in the world of cinema is nothing short of exhilarating! The fact that Steven Spielberg, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Netflix are teaming up to adapt S.A. Cosby’s “King of Ashes” is a fusion of talent that promises a masterpiece in the making.

For several weeks, a fierce battle has taken place among competitors for the rights to adapt S.A. Cosby’s upcoming novel “King of Ashes.” And now, the victor has been chosen.

According to several reliable sources, Netflix has been triumphant over eleven other contenders in securing the rights for a TV adaptation of a family crime drama book. The partnership is between Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions. Together, they will collaborate on producing this series with Netflix providing financial support.

In the past few days, it’s been reported that Spielberg stepped in to assist the author in completing their work, according to two reliable sources. However, neither representatives from the three involved companies responded promptly to EbMaster’s requests for a comment.

Longtime literary agent Lucy Stille has been handling the dealings for Cosby, whose fame has skyrocketed recently, particularly in the realm of Southern noir crime literature. Among his past works are “My Darkest Prayer,” “Blacktop Wasteland,” “Razorblade Tears,” and “All the Sinners Bleed.” The latter project is currently being developed by Amblin and Higher Ground, as reported in June, with plans to produce another crime series.

Titled “King of Ashes,” reminiscent of “The Godfather,” this upcoming novel won’t be available until next summer. This title will launch on the freshly established Pine & Cedar imprint under Flatiron Books. This is the first book in a three-book agreement he has secured with Flatiron.
