As a long-time Rainbow Six Siege gamer with countless hours under my belt, I must admit, I’m both excited and a tad apprehensive about the upcoming cross-play feature between PC and console. On one hand, it opens up new possibilities for teaming up with friends who prefer different platforms, but on the other, I fear the potential unbalanced matches that might ensue due to hardware differences.
In about nine years since its debut, Rainbow Six Siege is now preparing to offer cross-platform play between PC and console versions. This new feature will be rolled out with the Year 9 Season 4 update on December 3, simultaneously introducing anti-cheat updates aimed at addressing the issue of PC cheaters.
From December 3 onward, console gamers can effortlessly merge with the pool of PC players. However, it’s important to note that PC players won’t have the option to join the console matchmaking pool. In case you’re playing in a group where at least one member is using a PC, your party will automatically be moved to the PC gaming pool. For console users who participate in ranked playlists with cross-play enabled, they’ll each have their own separate rank for PC and console matches.

Introducing cross-platform play to a game that’s close to a decade old requires careful thought, and it’s not just about adjusting matchmaking. To maintain fairness when cross-play is introduced, Ubisoft is enhancing anti-cheat measures. This will help detect cheaters more effectively. As a result, console players who have the Mousetrap Penalty (a mechanism to prevent use of mouse and keyboard) will be temporarily moved into the PC matchmaking group for 90 days.
If players decide to disable cross-play, they won’t be able to participate in matchmaking until they reactivate the feature. Additionally, any games found to have cheaters will be immediately terminated without affecting the matchmaking rating. Ubisoft is improving the Reputation Center to showcase the behaviors that could result in warnings or penalties more accurately. As per Ubisoft, information like reputation, rank, and replayable matches will be consolidated into a new central hub, with account statistics set to follow soon.
The latest update for Rainbow Six Siege during Year 9 Season 4 introduces a new operator named Blackbeard, equipped with an adjustable shield known as H.U.L.L. Additionally, modifications have been made to R.O.U. Projectors, Thunderbird’s Kona Station, and ballistic shields, along with several overall improvements.
