PlayStation trophy hunter cuts ties with Sony for suspending 17-year-old PS account

As a gamer who has been around the block more times than I care to remember, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Hakoom, the world’s biggest PlayStation trophy hunter. This man has dedicated an impressive 17 years of his life to Sony’s platform, amassing an astounding number of trophies and even earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The world’s biggest PlayStation trophy hunter has parted ways with Sony, after alleging his 17-year-old account was unfairly banned.

Abdul ‘Hakoom’ Hakam was incredibly passionate about accumulating PlayStation trophies to the point that he managed to secure a place in the Guinness World Records no less than five times. He currently maintains the record for the highest number of PSNProfile trophy points, an astounding 2,306,475.

Although he stopped participating in trophy hunting in 2021, his outstanding accomplishments earned him a collaboration with Sony. Lately, however, this partnership has become strained. A disagreement over his PlayStation account led Hakoom to sever connections with the corporation.

I hopped onto Instagram and other platforms yesterday, only to find out that my PlayStation account has been indefinitely suspended, effective from September 9th, with no clear reason given for this action.

As a devoted fan, I’ve shared my side of the story: I haven’t received any email about the ban, and unfortunately, I didn’t get the help I needed from Sony’s customer service. In desperation, I contacted another department, who assured me they would look into the matter.

Later on, Hakoom learned that his suspension stemmed from several breaches of Sony’s rules and regulations. Yet, he firmly maintains that the ban was completely unjustified.

Sony identified suspected infractions such as acquiring Platinum trophies for games typically needing over 100 hours within a short timeframe, finishing certain games in mere seconds, and utilizing over 2,000 accounts on 29 different PlayStation systems.

The 40-year-old refutes all accusations, clarifying that his swift acquisition of the Platinum trophies was actually thanks to Sony’s auto-pop feature. This feature grants players an automatic Platinum trophy on the PlayStation 5 edition of a game if they had previously unlocked it on the PlayStation 4 version.

Regarding the multiple accounts and consoles, he believes this is a result of playing PlayStation for 17 years. He’s created accounts for numerous now-dead online games over the years, and purchased 10 PlayStation 3s, five or six PlayStation 4s, four PlayStation Vitas, two PlayStation 5s, and two PlayStation TVs.

Additionally, Hakoom points out that the PlayStation Store offers numerous games that can be finished within a short span of time, primarily to grant simple Platinum trophies. Consequently, he opted to discontinue his pursuit of trophies entirely.

After Hakoom’s account was reinstated, Sony decided to remove him from their partnership program. This decision led him to express his thoughts openly about it, describing the incident as a case of what he terms “corruption and repression.
