Mike Tyson Says He ‘Almost Died’ Ahead of Jake Paul Fight: ‘Lost Half My Blood and 25 Lbs in Hospital’

As a longtime boxing enthusiast with memories of Tyson’s glory days etched deeply into my heart, I can’t help but admire the indomitable spirit displayed by Iron Mike Tyson in his recent exhibition bout against Jake Paul. Despite facing severe medical challenges that would have sidelined many athletes, he pushed through, fought valiantly, and even managed to gracefully accept defeat with humility and gratitude.

Mike Tyson clarified the health concerns that initially postponed his match against Jake Paul.

On his official Twitter, Tyson shared that he came close to death in June. He underwent eight blood transfusions, lost approximately half of his blood volume, 25 pounds in the hospital, and struggled to recover enough to continue fighting – which he successfully did.

Initially slated for a July 20th showdown, I found myself eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated bout between Tyson and Paul – only to learn that it was postponed until November due to Tyson’s unfortunate ulcer flare-up towards the end of May.

Tyson also said that he was “grateful” and had “no regrets to get in the ring one last time.”

It’s a unique, unasked-for privilege to fight alongside a young, skilled opponent in eight rounds, witnessed by a full house at the Dallas Cowboys stadium and watched by my children. I am deeply grateful.

Following eight intense rounds, Paul, at the age of 27, emerged triumphant against the previous world heavyweight champion Tyson, who is now 58 years old. This victory was declared a unanimous decision.

Beyond the highly-anticipated matchup between Paul and Tyson, the main event also showcased a rematch between Katie Taylor, the undisputed super lightweight champion, and Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano, the unified featherweight champion. This time around, Taylor emerged victorious again in a contentious unanimous decision, having previously won their first encounter via a split decision. Other matches on the card included Mario Barrios versus Abel Ramos for the WBC welterweight world title which ended in a split draw, and Neeraj Goyat defeating Whindersson Nunes via a unanimous decision.
