As a seasoned fan of animated series, I must say that the latest twist in Arcane has left me utterly spellbound! The revelation that Singed, or rather, Dr. Reveck, is none other than our beloved Corin Reveck from the League of Legends lore, has added a layer of depth and complexity to this already captivating tale.
An exciting fan theory has been confirmed in Arcane Season 2 Part 2, as we hear the name “Dr. Reveck.” But who is Corin Reveck in the League of Legends games, and how is he in the series?
It’s no secret that Riot Games has changed elements from the rich LoL lore for Arcane. It’s one of the reasons the Netflix show is so effective, appealing to both fans and newcomers with its impeccable storytelling and character development.
In the Netflix series Arcane, Jinx’s backstory is developed more fully, providing insight into why she becomes a chaotic villain. Similarly, Viktor is portrayed as a complex character in Hextech, grappling with moral dilemmas surrounding his groundbreaking work.
In Arcane Season 2 Episode 5, one can clearly see an abundance of creativity as it’s revealed that a character from League of Legends shares the past of Corin Reveck. Be aware: potential spoilers follow!
Who is Corin Reveck?
In the world of League of Legends, Corin Reveck is famously recognized for his skillful work as a Piltover inventor and for being Orianna’s father. He played a significant role in her metamorphosis into The Clockwork Lady.
Back when I took on the challenge of teaching my protégé Orianna the intricate craft of creating top-notch prosthetics, she truly excelled in the realm of innovation and aesthetics. Yet, I couldn’t help but guard her zealously as well.
Orianna yearned to venture beyond the secure streets of Piltover and aid the suffering populace in Zaun’s underbelly. Following a hazardous gas release, Orianna secretly departed from home and ultimately bestowed her mask on a young child, which unfortunately led to lasting harm to her lungs.
Overwhelmed by urgency, Corin undertook a tireless quest to rescue his daughter. As time passed, he slowly altered her into a mechanical entity, initiating the process by equipping her with artificial lungs.
At first, it appeared effective, but later on, the toxic substance infiltrated her entire body. Mechanical replacements for her organs were gradually installed by Corin until ultimately, only her original human heart was left.
Gradually, Orianna drifted further away from her former self. Later on, Corin got sick, leaving them without enough funds to help him recover.
In the heat of the game, I found myself faced with an unimaginable choice – to give away my most precious resource, the human heart beating within me, to my father. It was a tough call, but ultimately, I made the ultimate sacrifice.
Orianna anesthetized Corin in secret and performed the transplant, replacing her heart with The Ball – a clockwork device containing a Hextech crystal.
During that period, Orianna embraced her fresh persona as The Lady of Clockwork and ventured out under the cover of darkness to pursue her destiny. Upon awakening, Corin discovered his daughter was missing, with only a golden figurine of a dancer left behind as a token of her memory.
In the League of Legends series, Corin has pledged to set aside any earnings he manages, with the aim of eventually returning to Piltover and locating his daughter.
Arcane Season 2 Episode 5 confirms Singed is Dr Reveck
It was previously speculated that the scientist and inventor of Shimmer known as Singed, also called The Doctor, might be none other than Corin Reveck. This theory was recently validated in Arcane Season 2’s fifth episode titled ‘Blisters and Bedrock’.
Throughout the journey, there have been numerous subtle clues. For instance, the pocket watch that Singed constantly carries aligns with Corin’s line of work. In the first season itself, observant viewers pointed out that the girl’s picture within the watch bears a striking resemblance to Orianna.
In addition, it’s worth noting that while we know Singed created Shimmer as early as Chapter 1, within the League of Legends universe, Singed is portrayed as being malevolent for no particular reason.
As a dedicated fan, I appreciate how Arcane delves deep into its characters’ complex backstories. Merging his tale with Corin’s narrative offers the writers an opportunity to provide him with a compelling motivation – a desperate quest to save his daughter. Despite his actions being misguided, he’s fueled by a heart-wrenching desire to protect her.
The revelation arrives after the events of Season 2 Episode 4, when Singed finally unleashes his monstrous creation, Warwick (who, as it turns out, has been made using Vander’s body).
Following Jinx’s act of liberating a group of Zaunite prisoners held within Piltover’s prisons, Warwick rushes at her aggressively. However, instead of attacking, he halts abruptly when she unexpectedly stirs up Vander’s forgotten memories. Consequently, he flees the scene.
In Episode 5, Caitlyn and Ambessa seek clarification. After some discussion, they decide that if Singed can guide them to Warwick, they will consider him a respected counselor. He then escorts them to his lab to utilize his unusual alchemy to find the creature.
As I settle down, a sudden revelation strikes me. “The archives of my family have been instrumental in unraveling many secrets of this city,” I ponder aloud. “One particular enigma has sparked my curiosity.
The mysterious expulsion of an esteemed alchemy scholar from the academy, with no clear reason or record of wrongdoing. This has left us questioning who created Shimmer all these years. But now, it seems we have the answer, don’t we Dr. Reveck? You’re a beast.
Singe clarifies the motives behind all his actions, solidifying the notion that he embodies a likeness to Corin Reveck as Arcane. “What drives people to do things others consider unimaginable?” he questions, “Love.
Singed Reveck’s pocket watch is also a key
In the world of Arcane, Singed/Reveck’s pocket watch serves multiple purposes. During a conversation with Caitlyn and Ambessa, he casually mentions that this watch conceals another function – it is also a key. This particular key unlocks a hidden room, within which resides his daughter, Orianna.
She hasn’t been turned into The Lady of Clockwork as of now, but rather, she’s being sustained in a pod that’s connected to various chemical pumps instead.
He remarks, “Maybe, in another existence, we could have been friends.” Laying aside the timepiece, he uncovers a photograph of Orianna, taken before her passing. “All my actions,” he continues, “have been driven by the desire to heal her.
His sick experiments and creation of Warwick were all just to try and save his daughter. “I believe the beast may hold the final key,” he says. When Ambessa asks what he’s trying to cure, Singed/Reveck replies, “Death.”
Essentially, he’s seeking the secret to eternal life, as he puts it, “a world where death is no longer feared.” However, the issue persists: will his relentless pursuit preserve or erode whatever remnants of his humanness remain?
We’ll need to stay patient and observe as Arcane Season 2 Part 3 arrives on Netflix on November 23. In the meantime, don’t forget to explore these fantastic animated series, listen to the Season 2 soundtrack, and learn more about “Baby Jinx” Isha.
