Warframe dev “plans to do more Protoframes” after 1999 update release

As a seasoned Warframe gamer who has traversed the Origin System since its early days, I must say that the upcoming 1999 update is shaping up to be a truly momentous chapter in this game’s rich history. The Protoframe characters and their origins are not only intriguing but also a testament to the depth of Warframe’s lore.

In approximately a month after its release, Warframe (1999) has the capacity to make an impressive leap in its already remarkable timeline. A significant factor contributing to this is the Protoframe characters who drive the storyline, and it seems there may be many more like them in the future.

1999’s narrative features a central group of six characters, known as The Hex, who embody the traits of legendary Warframes. These include Arthur (Excalibur), Amir (Volt), Aoi (Mag), Quincy (Cyte-09), Letitia (Trinity) and Eleanor (Nyx).

In the latest update, Cyte-09 joins the roster, ready for gameplay in the present version of the Origin System. The initial models of these character frames were all connected to the research of Dr. Albrecht Entrati, who time-traveled to 1999 during a puzzling epidemic, linking his work to this period.

The concept is intriguing and greatly expands the backstory associated with each image. Leaving them standalone during 1999, without establishing a more substantial enduring impact on the idea, seems like a squandered chance.

Luckily, there’s no need for fans to be concerned about it, as Community Director Megan Everett clarified during our latest chat about the 1999 update.

It seems like a significant oversight not to explore Protoframes further, as they won’t be available again after 1999. We currently possess six of them, and collectively, we refer to them as “The Hex.

We’re eager to explore and execute more Protoframes. While we may not be able to promise all of them, rest assured that they are on our radar and part of our future endeavors.

Once more, there’ll be a thought-out approach regarding what we choose to execute and what aligns with the narrative we’re crafting for our story. Everything is part of a strategy as we move forward, and ideas are simmering, taking shape in our minds.

Digital Extremes plans to introduce time travel into their narrative, creating a fresh storyline with an uncertain timeline. This move offers exciting possibilities for exploring new plot directions.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a thrill about the upcoming developments in Warframe. Leaving the Protoframes behind, the developers are opening up a whole new realm of potential narratives and possibilities – not just for the future, but also for the past. This next step promises an entirely fresh pantheon of stories to explore!

With 1999 set to release in December, players don’t have long to wait to find out for themselves.
