As a battle-hardened Warzone veteran with countless hours spent in Verdansk and beyond, I can confidently say that the removal of the Riot Shield in Season 1 is a godsend! For years, I’ve been at the mercy of those shield-wielding warriors, dodging stuns and cursing their bulletproof barrier. Now, finally, I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that my ammo won’t be wasted on an impenetrable wall anymore.
Experiencing the irritation when facing off against a player utilizing a Riot Shield in Warzone is something we’ve all gone through. Sitting defensively behind their large bulletproof plastic barrier, you sense an impending, anger-fuelled battle stretching out before you. Fortunately, this situation has improved with the Season 1 update.
Using a Riot Shield as a tactic has been quite effective, albeit somewhat comical, since Verdansk. Players often carry Stun Grenades and the shield to dodge major battles. Once they reach the final circle, they make you exhaust your ammunition or attempt to flee, then immobilize you with the Stun and defeat you while you’re temporarily frozen in position.
Instead of hurrying them and attempting to use your Stun Grenades quickly, do you prefer to maintain a distance and keep the game at an impasse? When it comes down to just you and the Riot Shielder in the final circle, their skill (or lack thereof, if you’re fortunate) will determine the outcome.
Riot Shield finally removed from Warzone
Finally, it’s here! The Season 1 update for Warzone has dropped, and I can hardly contain my excitement. It’s packed with all the weapons, omnimovement, Operators, and even some of the perks from Black Ops 6, right in the heart of the battle royale action. What a treat! I was relieved to find that the Riot Shield, which gave me so much trouble in Black Ops 6 multiplayer, isn’t part of the mix here. But the icing on the cake? They’ve taken it out of Warzone too! Now, I can focus more on the fun and less on that pesky shield.
It appears that if you start Warzone right now, you won’t find the Riot Shield available. Strangely, the patch notes don’t seem to indicate its removal.
Removing that bothersome strategy makes this an opportunity for true mastery. Now, players must focus entirely on their shooting accuracy and strategic placement to emerge victorious; they won’t be able to hide safely in the open any longer.
Many others share my joy, since CharlieIntel’s Twitter feed was filled with players praising the developers for the change. There were plenty of “W” victories and numerous fire emojis expressing celebration over the removal. Of course, there were some who felt disappointed as well.
In the fresh Area 99 layout and Urzikstan, it’s premature to speculate about what the meta might be, but luckily, we won’t encounter that pesky Riot Shield anymore.
