The Rock is being mocked for comparing Red One to Oppenheimer

As a seasoned gamer with years of immersive entertainment under my belt, I must say, The Rock’s latest claim about Red One has me scratching my head and chuckling simultaneously. While I admire his enthusiasm for pushing boundaries and striving for grandeur, comparing Red One to the monumental masterpiece that was Oppenheimer is a bit of a stretch, even for Hollywood’s most charismatic showman.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve always admired Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s ability to maintain an infectiously optimistic outlook on his film projects. However, his recent promotional video has truly taken things to another level! He’s revealed that the character of Oppenheimer inspired him to aim for the grandest and most spectacular IMAX screens for… Red One.

Recall the film Black Adam, which was anticipated to shake up the power structure within the DC universe with Dwayne Johnson. Despite expectations, the movie didn’t perform well financially or critically. However, The Rock claimed that it still turned a profit – a claim that has been met with much debate.

It’s no surprise that he’s always in the public eye; after all, he’s involved in some of the highest-grossing films ever made and runs a business too. Yet, his recent claim about Red One has triggered widespread amusement, almost universally.

It’s gonna… rock! See what we did there, @TheRock? #RedOneMovie

In the latest IMAX video release, Johnson shares that his intention was to create a fresh film, ideal for viewers to experience on the largest screen available.

As a devoted admirer, I found myself right in the middle of filming Red One when an intriguing proposition presented itself: to catch Oppenheimer on the big screen. And what a screen it was! The IMAX theater where Christopher Nolan himself watches and showcases his masterpieces. So, with a hint of audacity, I asked, “Could I perhaps take a seat where Chris usually sits?” (He reminisces.)

I took Chris’s seat and watched Oppenheimer. It was truly awe-inspiring, and as I watched the Red One appear on the screen, I couldn’t help but think, ‘With this technology, it could all be decided.’

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I can confidently say that Opppenheimer wasn’t just the standout film of 2023 – it was a pivotal, culture-shaping experience that surpassed all expectations. In comparison, while Red One is undeniably impressive, it doesn’t quite reach the same heights as Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece. To be clear, I hold The Rock in high regard, but it simply can’t match up to Opppenheimer (with a 37% Rotten Tomatoes score).

The Rock watched Oppenheimer in IMAX, and his immediate thought was humorously put, ‘Well, still, what if it was terrible,'” one user quipped. “It’s hard to criticize at this level of self-centered arrogance. This quote is a classic all-time,” another added.

“One individual found it amusing to contrast your action movie with a timeless classic, saying it was ridiculous.
