GoT: Kingsroad on First Gameplay Trailer. New Entry from Game of Thrones Universe is Open-World Action RPG

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt and countless hours spent immersed in the captivating world of Westeros through the TV series and books, I must say that the announcement of “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” has both piqued my interest and left me with a sense of cautious optimism.

“Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” is a new addition to the “Game of Thrones” universe. Earlier this month, the game was announced by Netmarble, but it was only recently, at the Korean Gstar 2024 fair, that they unveiled the first trailer for this title.

The official website mentions that Kingsroad is currently available on Android and iOS devices. Yet, a recent financial report from Netmarble reveals that Kingsroad is also set to be released on PC systems in the year 2025.

In a fresh development, we’re looking at a new game in the realm of “Game of Thrones” that is being designed as a third-person action role-playing game featuring an expansive open world. This game will delve into events happening between seasons four and five of the TV show, transporting us to the cold, snowy regions close to the Wall and Winterfell. The developers have a challenging task at hand, ensuring that the narrative remains consistent not only with the television series but also with the books.

In April of this year, there were signs suggesting the game would offer a deep narrative mode and adhere to the MMO format. Interestingly, it was initially expected to be developed not by Netmarble, but by Nexon (so details might have shifted, and indeed, that appears to be the case). The game is rumored to be built using Unreal Engine 5 technology.

Unfortunately, as of now, we don’t have specifics regarding the title, and the trailer failed to alleviate the concerns of fans of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The announcement that the next venture into the gaming market with “Game of Thrones” will be an MMO didn’t exactly excite them. However, if the game’s development direction changes towards an open-world action RPG, it might alter their perspective on the project.
