ABC News Elevates James Longman to Chief International Correspondent

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for global storytelling, I find James Longman’s journey through journalism nothing short of cinematic. His resumĂ© reads like a script of an action-packed, emotionally charged drama series, with each role more gripping than the last.

James Longman recently earned the title of Chief International Correspondent at ABC News, marking a fresh position for this seasoned foreign news reporter.

Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News, stated that since he joined the network seven years ago, James’ courageous reporting and exceptional storytelling have significantly improved ABC News’ global coverage. In his new role, which recognizes his hard work, James will continue to provide top-quality journalism to our audiences through all programs and platforms.

In 2017, Longman began working as a foreign correspondent for ABC News. Since then, he’s reported on the conflict in Ukraine and covered Israel following the October 7 terror attack. His reporting during the first two weeks of the war in Gaza, which was broadcasted live by ABC News Live, contributed to the outlet winning an Emmy in September, a recognition backed by Disney.

He has covered news stories ranging from the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II to the Thai soccer team stuck in a rainforest cave. He previously worked for the BBC where he served as a general news reporter and the corporation’s Beirut correspondent. Longman is a fluent Arabic and French speaker.

Longman has broadened the scope of his journalistic work, delving into the genetic aspects of mental health issues in his upcoming book titled “The Inherited Mind,” set to hit shelves in January 2025. This book offers a personal account of his family’s struggle with schizophrenia and depression. Previously, he was awarded the David Bloom Prize for his exceptional reporting on human rights abuses against the LGBTQ+ community in Chechnya.

Karamehmedovic stated, “I’ve personally seen his skills,” emphasizing that Longman has a unique talent for compassionately narrating stories and taking a straightforward approach, which consistently wins the hearts of our listeners.
