As someone who grew up with the nostalgic charm of pixelated characters and the thrill of virtual battles, I can wholeheartedly say that the holiday season for video games is always a special time. The recent survey by the Entertainment Software Association only confirms what we gamers have known all along – the allure of video games transcends age, gender, and even holidays!

It comes as no great shock that many children are asking for video games this holiday season, according to a study conducted by the Entertainment Software Association, which represents the US video game industry’s interests in Washington D.C. The survey indicates that a large number of kids aged 10-17 have expressed a strong preference for video games as their gift of choice during Christmas and the holidays at large.

As a passionate enthusiast, I was intrigued to learn that an astonishing 76% of us youngsters are eagerly anticipating the moment when we’ll request our parents or guardians for video games. This desire surpasses other popular choices such as asking for money (67%), clothes (66%), and general tech gadgets like phones and smartwatches (62%). It’s fascinating to see how much the world of gaming captivates us!

As a gamer myself, I can tell you that during this festive season, about 67% of the girls and 87% of the boys are eagerly anticipating asking for video games. If we dive deeper into their wish lists, here’s what I found: consoles (47%) top the list, followed closely by subscription services (43%). Console games (41%) and game gear (41%) are also high on their radar, with in-game currency (38%) being another popular choice.

As a gaming enthusiast, I was intrigued by the findings of a recent survey regarding expenditure forecasts among U.S. adults. Interestingly, those of us who intend to purchase video game gifts have an estimated average spending of $312, whether it’s for ourselves or others.

According to the Financial Times, this upcoming holiday shopping season may prove challenging for video game hardware sales. Gareth Sutcliffe, an analyst from Enders Analysis, expressed his view that this year’s gaming hardware offerings will likely be less exciting compared to past seasons. In fact, he went as far as to say, “It seems hard to envision a holiday season more lackluster than this one in terms of gaming hardware.” Sutcliffe also noted that the current situation is rather grim.

The sales of video game hardware are generally decreasing across all platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. This downward trend in sales is predicted to persist when Circulara publishes its October monthly report later this month.

Sony has unveiled the PS5 Pro, however, it’s primarily designed for tech enthusiasts as opposed to the broader consumer market.

To boost sales, Microsoft reduced the cost of the Xbox Series X by $50 temporarily. However, Sony’s advertisement previously indicated a $20 discount for the digital PS5 Slim version until Christmas Eve, but later they took out that part from the trailer without providing any reason.

Simultaneously, Nintendo has unveiled a lineup of special Black Friday offers, such as reduced prices on Switch packages. It’s anticipated that Nintendo will soon reveal the next-generation Switch console, tentatively known as the Switch 2, within the coming months.

Regarding the ESA, they advocate to legislators in Washington, aiming to persuade them to maintain a minimal regulatory approach. The ESA prefers self-regulation within the video game industry rather than involving the government. Notably, the ESA has congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on his election and acknowledged senators and representatives who form the 119th Congress.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) expressed eagerness to collaborate with the Trump administration and the new Congress, focusing on policies beneficial for the approximately 190 million Americans who frequently enjoy video gaming.
