As a longtime Horizon fan who has witnessed the evolution of these captivating post-apocalyptic worlds, I must admit my initial skepticism when Lego Horizon Adventures was announced. However, after learning that Tim Russ, a familiar voice from both the Horizon and Star Trek universes, would be voicing Sylens, I find myself intrigued.
After the sad passing of Lance Reddick in 2023, fans of Horizon were eager to learn about the future of his character, Sylens. With the debut of Lego Horizon Adventures this week, it has been revealed – within that spin-off game at least – that Sylens does make an appearance and is voiced by Tim Russ, known for his role in Star Trek Voyager.
In the games, Sylens is much like Aloy, the main character of Horizon, in many aspects. Both characters delve into the hidden past of their world, a time marked by a catastrophic event that led machines to dominate. It’s worth mentioning that Russ, who plays Sylens in Lego Horizon Adventures, was also Jetakka in Horizon Forbidden West earlier. In this new game, he is portrayed as “DJ Sylens.” (via IGN)

Back in the early part of this year, the creators of Horizon, Guerrilla Games, mentioned that Sylens would be recast for the Lego Horizon Adventures, but they weren’t prepared to unveil the specifics just yet. Interestingly, a few of the original Horizon voice artists are also featured in the Lego version, including Ashly Burch as Aloy, JB Blanc as Rost, and John Macmillan as Varl. To add to this exciting news, Reddick, who has previously lent his voice to Sylens, is also known for voicing Zavala in Bungie’s Destiny series.
After his demise, fans of Destiny 2 held a tribute ceremony within the game itself, and subsequently, Bungie declared that Keith David will take over the character’s role from the upcoming expansion, titled “The Final Shape.
Through bricks and mini-figures, Horizon is beautifully reimagined for a younger demographic, but its repetitive missions might be challenging even for mature players,” according to Mark Delaney’s review of Lego Horizon Adventures in TopMob. The game will officially debut on PS5, PC, and Switch on November 14.
