Ludivine Sagnier to Serve on European Shooting Stars Jury, Alongside Director Radu Muntean, Producer Amel Soudani

As a seasoned movie connoisseur with a soft spot for European cinema and its enchanting narratives, I find myself deeply intrigued by the lineup of esteemed individuals chosen to serve as jurors for the 28th edition of European Shooting Stars. This prestigious event showcases the continent’s most promising acting talents, and I couldn’t be more excited about the caliber of professionals tasked with selecting the next generation of European stars.

European Film Promotion, an organization that supports films and European talent, has announced the panel of judges for the 28th annual European Shooting Stars event, a platform that spotlights acting talent across the continent.

The jury, consisting of five movie industry experts, will choose ten actors to participate in a program during the Berlin Film Festival, taking place from February 13th to the 23rd. These actors are being selected from a pool of candidates who have been nominated by their respective national film promotion bodies and institutions.

The jury features Ludivine Sagnier, a renowned actor who gained fame through her roles in films by François Ozon. Notable works of hers include “Water Drops on Burning Rocks” (2000), “8 Women” (2002) and “Swimming Pool” (2003). Sagnier is also set to appear in Ozon’s upcoming film, “Quand vient l’automne” (2024). Additionally, she has collaborated with directors like P.J. Hogan, Lee Tamahori, Paolo Sorrentino, Hirokazu Koreeda and Ridley Scott.

Additionally, the jury includes Romanian filmmaker Radu Muntean, whose films have been screened and recognized at festivals like Locarno, Sarajevo, Cannes, and Toronto. Some of his works include “The Paper Will Be Blue” (2006), “Tuesday After Christmas” (2010), “Alice T.” (2018), and the latest “Intregalde” (2021).

He’s accompanied by Amel Soudani, a Swiss producer who founded AMKA Films Productions. Recently, she has been involved in projects like “La Chimera” directed by Alice Rohrwacher and the documentary “L’Afriques les Femmes,” produced by Mohammed Soudani.

One of the jurors is casting director Pauline Hansson from Sweden. She was nominated for the European Casting Award at the Locarno Film Festival in 2016 (“Drifters” by Peter Grönlund) and for the BAFTA in 2023 (“Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Östlund). At present, she is involved in Ostlund’s second English-language film production titled “The Entertainment System Is Down,” which will be filmed in 2025 and features Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun, and Samantha Morton as the main stars.

The jury is rounded off by journalist and curator Vuk Perović from Montenegro. His journalistic work includes articles, radio and television features for various daily and weekly newspapers and broadcasters. Perović is the author of the TV show “The Seventh Continent” on cinema and film. He is a co-founder of UnderhillFest, an international documentary film festival, and programmer of the Herceg Novi Film Festival – Montenegro Film Festival.

The 10 Shooting Stars will be announced in mid-December.

At the Berlin International Film Festival, the chosen talents will participate in a customized, four-day program that includes networking opportunities, press engagements, and industry functions. The highlight of this program is the Shooting Stars award ceremony, which takes place on stage at the Berlinale Palast during the closing event.

As a movie enthusiast, I want to share that the foundation of this cinematic journey is bolstered by the Creative Europe – Media Program of the European Union, as well as the national film promotion institutions that are part of the European Film Promotion (EFP).
