Lena Dunham to Write Sam Bankman-Fried Movie for Apple, A24 Based on Michael Lewis Book ‘Going Infinite’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As an ardent enthusiast of the dynamic world of cinema and finance, I am thrilled by the news that Lena Dunham is set to bring the captivating tale of Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX, as portrayed in Michael Lewis’s “Going Infinite,” to life on the silver screen. The combination of Apple Studios and A24, two powerhouses in their respective realms, promises a cinematic experience that will undoubtedly captivate audiences worldwide.

It’s been reported exclusively by EbMaster that Apple and A24 are working on a movie based on Michael Lewis’ book “Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon”. Lena Dunham is set to write the script for this project during its early development stages.

Apple Studios and A24 are jointly creating and producing the movie titled “Going Infinite.” This film explores the meteoric rise and dramatic fall of the cryptocurrency exchange and hedge fund FTX, including its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. The book was initially published in October 2023 and later became a bestseller on the New York Times list.

The official description of the book reads:

Initially encountering Sam Bankman-Fried, the youngest billionaire in the world and crypto’s equivalent of Gatsby, Michael Lewis wonders about this seemingly casual man in cargo shorts and white socks who divides his attention between Zoom meetings and video games. Lewis delves into uncovering Bankman-Fried’s enigma, providing readers with insights into the subject’s thoughts, as they navigate through the realms of high-speed trading, cryptocurrencies, philanthropy, bankruptcy, and legal systems. A blend of psychological study and financial thrill ride, Going Infinite showcases Michael Lewis at his finest, chronicling the extraordinary journey of a rule-averse character who lived life on his own terms―until it all spiraled out of control.

FTX, established in 2019, rapidly grew into one of the most prominent global cryptocurrency trading platforms. However, in 2022, a significant amount of funds – estimated to be billions of dollars – went missing when an unprecedented number of customers sought to withdraw their assets simultaneously. As a result, Sam Bankman-Fried faced charges and was eventually found guilty on multiple counts related to fraud, money laundering, and other offenses.

Lena Dunham is most recognized for producing, acting in, directing, and overseeing the production of the highly praised TV series “Girls,” which aired on HBO from 2012 to 2017. This show garnered her eight Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe. Apart from “Girls,” Dunham has worked on other television projects such as “Camping” and “Generation.” She is also co-creating the Netflix romantic comedy series “Too Much,” featuring Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe, which will soon be released. Additionally, she directed the pilot episode for the HBO series “Industry,” which has recently been renewed for a fourth season.

In the world of cinema, Lena Dunham penned and directed the 2022 film “Catherine Called Birdy” and authored and helmed “Sharp Stick,” both released in the same year. Notably, she also starred onscreen in the latter as Heather.

She is repped by CAA, ID PR, and Hansen Jacobson.

The most recent project that Apple Original Films and A24 have teamed up on is titled “Going Infinite.” They’ve also collaborated previously on films such as Spike Lee and Denzel Washington’s “High and Low,” Jennifer Lawrence’s murder mystery “The Wives,” “On the Rocks” starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones (directed by Sofia Coppola), and “The Tragedy of Macbeth” directed by Joel Coen, just to name a few.

This latest endeavor by Bankman-Fried/FTX has also been announced as their newest project. It’s been revealed that Amazon is producing a limited series about the FTX collapse in 2022, and according to reports, another streaming platform is currently developing a similar limited series. Additionally, there are whispers that a recent Emmy winner might take on the role of Bankman-Fried in this upcoming production.
