As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for romantic comedies and a fond memory of the ’00s, I must say, I am absolutely thrilled about Renee Zellweger returning as Bridget Jones in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”. The franchise has always been a delightful blend of humor, relatability, and British charm that never fails to make me laugh and sigh at the same time.
I’m excitedly gearing up for my return as Bridget Jones in “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the fourth and concluding chapter of our beloved romantic comedy saga, premiering on Peacock on February 13th. Can’t wait to see you there!
The movie ‘Mad About the Boy’ is derived from the third book in Helen Fielding’s ‘Bridget Jones’ series. Interestingly, Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Emma Thompson are reprising their roles as Daniel Cleaver, Dr. Rawlings, respectively. Moreover, Jim Broadbent, Sarah Solemani, Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson, James Callis, Neil Pearson, Joanna Scanlan, and Celia Imrie are also back in the cast. New faces joining this ensemble include Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall, Isla Fisher, Nico Parker, Josette Simon, and Leila Farzad.
In this story, Bridget finds herself single once more, four years after losing her husband Mark in a humanitarian mission. She’s now a mother to Billy, aged 9, and Mabel, aged 4, and has been stuck in an emotional rut since then. Helped by her close friends and even an old flame, Daniel Cleaver, she tries to move on with life. Her family, colleagues, and doctor all encourage her to seek new opportunities in both life and love. Bridget eventually returns to work and starts using dating apps, where she attracts a charming younger suitor named Woodall. Balancing work, home, and romance now becomes challenging for Bridget. She faces the criticism of perfectionist mothers at school, frets over Billy’s struggles with his father’s absence, and interacts awkwardly with her son’s no-nonsense science teacher, played by Ejiofor.
The initial installment of ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary,’ which hit theaters in 2001, earned an impressive $282 million globally on a production budget of just $25 million. Subsequent films, ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’ (2004) and ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ (2016), were also added to the series. In total, this film franchise has amassed over $760 million in global box office receipts.
The movie “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is helmed by director Michael Morris, with a screenplay written collectively by Fielding, Dan Mazer, and Abi Morgan. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jo Wallett serve as producers under the banner of Working Title Films. Amelia Granger, Sarah-Jane Wright, and Fielding act as executive producers. StudioCanal will co-finance and co-distribute the movie in certain international regions. Miramax is also involved in co-financing this film.
