Finn Wolfhard, Jason Reitman to Reteam for ‘Idle Hands’ Remake at Sony (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a keen eye for emerging talent, I must admit that the news of Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk taking on the reimagining of “Idle Hands” has me absolutely thrilled! With their impressive resume from co-writing, co-directing, co-starring in, and producing the critically acclaimed “Hell of a Summer,” these young guns are clearly making waves in Hollywood.

Actor duo Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk are set to pen a new take on the 1999 horror-comedy movie “Idle Hands” for Sony Pictures, with Jason Reitman as the producer.

Wolfhard and Bryk are being considered to direct the upcoming movie “Idle Hands,” following the sale of their critically-acclaimed festival hit “Hell of a Summer” which they co-wrote, co-directed, acted in, and produced. In August, Neon purchased the horror-comedy “Hell of a Summer,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023, earning praise for the duo. The independent distributor responsible for the hit horror film “Longlegs” intends to launch the movie during summer 2025.

The film “Idle Hands” signifies a reunion for the duo and director Reitman, who collaborated with Wolfhard and Bryk on two “Ghostbusters” movies and “Saturday Night” under Sony Pictures. Reitman is producing in collaboration with Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd through their Team Todd label. Gil Keenan will also produce, while Maia Eyre is managing the project at Sony.

The 1999 film featuring Devon Sawa and Jessica Alba, titled originally, involves a rebellious teenager whose hand transforms into a lethal tool for violence. Finn, from “Stranger Things,” and Bryk aim to revitalize the teenage movie genre while maintaining its genuine appeal to the intended audience. At the 2023 TIFF event, Wolfard expressed his feelings to EbMaster: “Our main discussion was how irritating it is to watch new teen movies, and how poorly our age group is portrayed.

Wolfhard is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Venture Entertainment Partners, and law firm Jackoway Tyerman. On the other hand, Bryk is managed by Mosaic Talent Agency, Oscars Abrams Zimel & Associates, and lawyer Steve Warren.
