As a follower who has witnessed Shane Gillis‘ phenomenal comeback from adversity, I must say it’s truly inspiring to see him thrive and reach new heights in his career. The man is nothing short of resilient, turning a career-threatening speed bump into a launching pad for even greater success.
Following a successful sold-out arena tour across eight cities this year, comedian Shane Gillis is embarking on another journey.
The popular comedian will ring in the new year with “Shane Gillis Live,” a 27-city tour starting at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center on January 10. This is his largest tour to date, taking him to some of North America and Europe’s biggest venues such as Dallas’ American Airlines Center and London’s O2 Arena.
Gillis’ tour, teaming up with Outback Presents, will visit venues like Tampa’s Amalie Arena and Dublin’s 3Arena. Following his successful Netflix special “Beautiful Dogs,” which ranked in the Top 10 of five countries and remained on the U.S. Top 10 list for two weeks, these shows are set to follow. Moreover, Gillis served as the host for “Saturday Night Live” in February.
The comedian was well-known for being both employed and subsequently dismissed from “Saturday Night Live” in 2019, following the reemergence of controversial jokes he had made on a podcast on the internet. Despite this, he managed to maintain contact with the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Michaels admitted to feeling upset about the decision to terminate Gillis, which was allegedly made by higher-ups at NBC. However, in the last month, Michaels invited Gillis back to “SNL” as the host for Season 49.
After encountering a career setback, the native of Pennsylvania transformed into a powerful presence in the stand-up world. His self-financed first release, “Shane Gillis: Live in Austin,” gained significant popularity on Netflix, amassing over 30 million views. In 2023, his subsequent Netflix production, “Beautiful Dogs,” was jointly produced by All Things Comedy and his own production company, Dad Sick Productions, which he operates alongside his longtime comedy partner from Philadelphia, John McKeever.
Gillis is also a key player in the Netflix comedy series “Tires,” which he co-created with McKeever. At present, he’s busy working on Season 2 and still shares hosting duties for “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” with comedian Matt McCusker. This show ranks as the top Patreon podcast globally, boasting over 500 million downloads every month.
Gillis is repped by CAA, Range Media and the law firm Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
