As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Jon Stewart‘s analysis on Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign is as insightful as it is hilarious – much like a well-crafted indie film that manages to blend drama, comedy, and political commentary seamlessly.
On “The Daily Show” on Monday evening, Jon Stewart shared his insights into why Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign faltered for the Democratic party.
The last time we conversed, it was late on election night, and Donald Trump’s victory appeared quite decisive, as Stewart remarked during the live broadcast of ‘The Daily Show’ on Nov. 5. The confusion among Democrats, following Trump’s electoral win, popular vote loss, and urban area setbacks, was heightened because numerous experts had predicted a close race.
Stewart remarked, “However, in a nation where flipping coins seems crucial, I felt assured due to the Democrats’ hidden advantage in tight elections. This advantage might just be the key factor.” The host then referenced the $1 billion amassed by the Harris campaign during the presidential race, stating that it served as a substantial war chest for investing in data analysis, polling, consultants, and undeniably, text messaging.
Stewart additionally pointed out that Vice President Harris’ campaign boasted an impressive volunteer force, with numerous individuals making repeated visits to households for door-to-door voter outreach.
Apparently, people seem to find it even less enjoyable than a surprise visit when someone returns multiple times for a discussion on politics,” Stewart said with sarcasm. “Even door-to-door salespeople and representatives of Jehovah’s Witnesses are aware that such persistence is not effective.
Stewart openly acknowledged that he criticized the Democratic Party’s tactics, yet he also emphasized that their actions were not without reason. He went on to explain that there was a logical approach behind the Democrats’ seemingly chaotic moves. The broadcast then switched to footage of people expressing views that the political party is dedicated to safeguarding and preserving democracy.
Stewart added that it was reassuring to note that Democrats indeed safeguarded democracy – not just for their own sake, but for everyone else too. Ultimately, what mattered most was that we had a genuine and fair election, an outcome the Democrats were well-prepared for in virtually every situation except one.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve got to say, “The Daily Show” showcased snippets from diverse news sources about folks claiming that the Harris campaign was surrounded by a team of lawyers, county clerks, and secretaries of state.
Stewart posed a question as if he already knew the answer, “Everything’s in place! Are we missing something, folks?” Later, he jokingly inquired, “Did anyone forget to bring the voters? Oh, where are the voters?
Stewart pointed out that Harris, along with her running mate Tim Walz, refrained from embracing woke ideologies during their campaign. He remarked that they “behaved like Republicans” for the past four months, donning camouflage hats and attending Cheney family gatherings. Stewart humorously added, “You know how risky it is to wear a hunting hat around the Cheneys?
He remarked, “Democrats primarily faced opposition that was shaped around a few months following George Floyd’s death, with slogans like ‘defund the police’ and revivals of the ‘Me Too’ movement from four years ago on Instagram. Essentially, people felt that the government wasn’t serving their needs, and they perceived Democrats as using their earned income to support individuals who didn’t deserve it as much as them. Consequently, Democrats suffered a significant defeat.
Towards the conclusion of his speech, Stewart comforted his audience by stating emphatically that Donald Trump’s second presidency wouldn’t last indefinitely.
Stewart emphasized, “I simply want to reassure everyone, this isn’t permanent.” He then recalled an incident from 1984 when Ronald Reagan won the election, leaving only Minnesota for the Democrats. “At that time, many believed this marked the end of the Democrats,” he added. However, eight years later, a Democrat was back in office. “In four years, we have no idea what might transpire,” he concluded.
