As a lifelong devotee of the silver screen and small, I must admit my heart skipped a beat upon reading this latest news about ABC and Hulu’s upcoming collaborations. It seems we are witnessing the dawn of a new era where the boundaries between streaming and broadcast television blur into oblivion!

The boundaries between Hulu and ABC are becoming increasingly indistinct, as Google’s parent company showcased a midseason schedule filled with popular shows from Hulu. Among these shows is “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” which will be broadcast on Monday evenings at 10 p.m., starting January 27, following “The Bachelor.

Beginning on January 30th, ABC will air a broadcast of the Hulu docuseries “Perfect Wife: The Sherri Papini Disappearance Mystery” every Thursday at 10 pm, following the delayed true crime series “Scamanda.” In addition, starting in January 2024, ABC will rebroadcast Season 1 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” with Season 2 of the comedy airing Thursdays at 9 pm for the first four weeks of January 2025. Each episode will be a two-hour block.

The Hulu-ABC collaboration is one of several significant midseason adjustments that the Alphabet network has planned. Additionally, they intend to launch a three-drama series every Tuesday evening starting January 7th. At 9 pm ET, the freshman sensation “High Potential” will be shown, positioned between the Season 3 comeback of “Will Trent” at 8 pm and the return of “The Rookie” in its seventh season at 10 pm.

Starting January 8th, “Shifting Gears,” a new Tim Allen sitcom, will debut as the comedy companion to “Abbott Elementary” on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET. The first episode will air simultaneously, with “Abbott Elementary” following at 8:30 p.m., and this special night will include the much-anticipated crossover episode between “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

This sequence will transition into the debut of “Celebrity Jeopardy” at 9 PM, followed by “What Would You Do” at 10 PM.

In the meantime, a fresh take of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” featuring co-founders Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin as hosts, is set to debut on Thursday, January 2nd at 8 p.m. ET. This will be followed by repeat episodes of “Only Murders” in January, and then a double bill of “Scamanda” and the “Sherri Papini” storyline in February.

On March 6th, ABC will resume airing its scripted dramas during prime time, with “9-1-1”, “Doctor Odyssey” and “Grey’s Anatomy” all returning for their midseason comeback.

On Sundays until March 9th, we’ll be showing a blend of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Wonderful World of Disney.” From then on, at 8 p.m. ET, catch the new season of “American Idol,” featuring Carrie Underwood as a judge, immediately following “AFV.” At 10 p.m. ET, don’t miss the return of “The $100,000 Pyramid” in its eighth season.

Still on the bench: The final season of “The Conners,” which ABC said will return in March 2025. Also, it’s the longest goodbye for Pat Sajak as host of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” which had been pushed from fall and still doesn’t have an airdate in the new year; nor does the new season of “Press Your Luck,” which will also return.
