Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Extended Gameplay Reveals A Raiders-Like Adventure

As a lifelong fan of Indiana Jones, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this new adventure, and after watching the latest gameplay video for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, my excitement has reached fever pitch! The game seems to have captured the essence of Raiders of the Lost Ark so beautifully, from the iconic idol-grabbing trap sequences to the charming yet complex character dynamics between Indy and Gina.

The Indiana Jones series kicked off in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, a film that numerous fans consider as the top-tier film from the series. The upcoming game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, developed by Bethesda and MachineGames, draws inspiration from all three initial movies. However, the latest extended gameplay trailer suggests that The Great Circle leans more towards Raiders of the Lost Ark in its visual style and narrative.

In the video, similarities are established right from the start as Indiana Jones removes an idol and sets off a trap, mirroring the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. One might infer that this experience possibly instilled in Indy the use of a balance system when exchanging idols; however, this method still proved unsuccessful for him during Raiders.

A significant portion of the game’s atmosphere seems inspired by Raiders, such as the scene where the protagonist, Indy, is at Marshall College, his base when not pursuing valuable artifacts. The game’s female lead, Gina, shares some similarities with Indy’s first love, Marion Ravenwood. This is because Gina has objectives that may not align perfectly with Indy’s, just as Marion sometimes had conflicting interests. While Indiana aims to prevent the Nazis from unearthing the mysteries of the Great Circle, Gina is an Italian reporter primarily concerned with locating her missing sister.

Every Indiana Jones tale is incomplete without a worldwide journey, and The Great Circle offers just that. Typically, Indy’s main tools against Nazi guards are his bare fists or whatever objects he can quickly grab. Additionally, the video previews some of the challenges Indy must overcome, along with moments where the camera shifts to a third-person perspective as he maneuvers through hidden tombs.

In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, as TopMob initially discovered, there’s a strong emphasis on stealth rather than confrontation. Furthermore, throughout this adventure, Indiana Jones never resorts to shooting or punching dogs, but Nazis can be targeted in combat.

The adventure game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is set to release for Xbox Series X|S and personal computers on December 9th. A version for PlayStation 5 will be available starting Spring 2025.
