As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for reality TV and a soft spot for country music, I can’t help but be intrigued by the upcoming series “The Road.” Having spent countless hours immersed in the narratives of Taylor Sheridan‘s gripping western sagas and witnessing Blake Shelton’s tenure on “The Voice,” I find myself drawn to this unique blend of music competition and behind-the-scenes drama.
The renowned creator of “Yellowstone,” Taylor Sheridan, is collaborating with the former contestant of “The Voice,” Blake Shelton, on a fresh new singing competition called “The Journey.
The series will be launched by CBS as part of the network’s fall 2025 schedule.
“The Journey of Stardom
As reported by CBS, “The Road” provides an all-access pass to the raw and unmerciful world of a touring artist. With unique behind-the-scenes insights into the music industry, viewers will witness the challenges that emerge when promising artists embark on a demanding tour schedule, striving for their dreams.
The show is created by MTV Entertainment Studios, David Glasser’s 101 Studios, and the duo, Shelton and Lee Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions. The executive producers are Sheridan, Glasser, Shelton, and Metzger; Metzger also served as an executive producer for “The Voice.
Shelton and Sheridan have plenty of experience in reality TV. Not only did Shelton spend 23 seasons as an original coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” but he’s also served as a judge on “Nashville Star” and “Clash of the Choirs.” Meanwhile, Sheridan is known for his work beyond the hit series “Yellowstone,” having created the CMT docuseries “The Last Cowboy” as well.
Shelton expressed his enthusiasm by saying, ‘I’m thrilled to be working with Taylor and my long-term partner, Lee, on ‘The Road.’ Taylor’s work is phenomenal, and I admire it greatly. With my experience in singing competitions and the music industry, I’m eager to uncover fresh talent and provide them with an opportunity.’
Sheridan remarked, “A transformation is happening in country music. Partnering with Blake to create a stage for the future leaders of this movement is an extremely thrilling project. Gone are the days of polished floors and studio audiences. This is about the real deal – getting in the van, heading to the next town, and winning over the crowd. Repeat this enough times, and you’ll be one of the leaders. It’s as straightforward as that.
According to Glasser, “This project is the result of much heartfelt discussion between Taylor, Blake, Lee, and myself, which we’ve been eagerly anticipating for quite some time. I can’t express enough gratitude towards CBS for their backing as we embark on this exciting venture to share an extraordinary project with audiences worldwide.
Metzger commented, ‘Blake and I have worked as a team for quite some time now, and partnering with Taylor and David feels like assembling the ideal group any dreamer in country music would envision.’ This collaboration promises something big for our audience.
Deadline broke the news.
