As a long-time One Piece fanatic, who’s been sailing this grand adventure since its maiden voyage back in ’97, I can’t help but feel a twinge of unease at the sudden hiatus in our favorite shonen manga. This pirate, who’s weathered countless stormy arcs and navigated treacherous seas, is now facing an uncharted territory – three unexpected weeks without a new chapter.
This week, unfortunately, there won’t be a fresh One Piece chapter due to an unexpected break that will last several weeks.
As a devoted fan, I’ve got to say that One Piece has been nothing short of consistently captivating ever since its debut back in 1997. Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind this epic tale, rarely takes extended breaks during the series’ run. Lately, he’s cleverly inserted scheduled pauses into the publication to ensure he can keep delivering top-notch chapters without running out of steam.
Normally, we have advance notice about when these breaks occur, but an unexpected postponement has been announced. As a result, One Piece Chapter 1132 will now be published on December 1, 2024, which is three weeks later than the initial release date. This marks the second delay since Chapter 1129.
The following chapter is set for official release on the first of December, meaning there will be a few weeks’ break beforehand. I certainly hope that Oda is in good health during this time.

According to Manga Plus, there’s been a shift in the release schedule, but no explanation has been provided as of now. To maintain top-notch quality, Eiichiro intentionally spaces releases every two to three weeks and avoids overworking himself. The unexpected break has sparked worries about his health and wellbeing among fans.
One fan on X/Twitter advised Oda to prioritize his own well-being,” said one individual. “Another expressed concern for Oda’s safety and health,” added another.
It’s uncommon to have a break of six weeks spread across two months without any clear reason given, but there could be some justifiable reasons behind it. For example, the One Piece anime has been temporarily halted until 2025, which means Eiichiro Oda doesn’t need to produce content in advance for Toei Animation to animate immediately.
Right now, a re-imagined version of the Fish-Man Island Saga is being broadcast weekly as an interim measure. At the same time, production for the live-action series of One Piece Season 2 is underway, and Eiichiro has returned to his role as executive producer. He briefly paused working on the manga to lend a hand with this project, so it’s likely he’s still providing support to Netflix as well.
For those who are already in the loop, it’s important to note that until we have more information, what we’re discussing is speculative and may cause concern. Currently, the One Piece series is delving into the Elbaph Arc, a point where Luffy encountered Prince Loki after his Observation Haki was activated.
