Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

As a seasoned connoisseur of all things Bond, I must say that the list you’ve compiled is nothing short of extraordinary. Each candidate brings a unique blend of charm, charisma, and raw talent to the table, making them more than capable of donning the iconic tuxedo and carrying the weight of a legacy that spans over six decades.

Since Daniel Craig declared his exit from the role, there’s been a flurry of speculation over who will step into James Bond‘s shoes next. The chatter about potential candidates has been rampant for quite some time now, despite the fact that “Bond 26” won’t start filming until at least 2025. With whispers of producers meeting with various contenders, eager fans are hoping for a swift announcement regarding who will portray Ian Fleming’s legendary character in the future.

As a cinephile penning my thoughts on this upcoming masterpiece, I’ve found myself pondering over potential directors who could bring this story to life in the most breathtaking way possible. The name that has recently sparked excitement among fans is none other than Steve McQueen, whose gritty and evocative style left us spellbound with “Blitz”.

From my perspective, it’s clear that the upcoming Bond isn’t going to be the traditional 007 we’re used to. If the next film aligns with “No Time to Die’s” timeline, then James Bond is deceased, and Lashana Lynch’s character, Nomi, has taken over his MI6 agent number. However, the next Bond movie could choose to disregard this established sequence of events, opting instead for a different universe entirely, where each actor playing Bond exists in their own era. Honestly, it was always a bit confusing that Sean Connery’s Bond from the 60s and Pierce Brosnan’s Bond from the 90s were supposed to be the same person, after all.

Even though no new James Bond film is scheduled for release this holiday season, several Bond movies have been unveiled in November over the years. For instance, “The World Is Not Enough” was premiered 25 years ago, and “Skyfall,” which became a box office sensation in 2012, also had a November debut. As we wait for the next James Bond to be chosen, why not take this opportunity to revisit all the Bond films in chronological order?

Before diving into our extensive list of possible candidates, it’s worth acknowledging that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have been clear about three things: The next Bond should be played by a Brit; the next Bond should be young enough to be able to continue in the role for at least 15 years; and the next Bond will be a man, not a woman.

Indeed, just like Agent 007 himself understands all too well, rules are often designed to be bent or even boldly disregarded. So, in keeping with this spirit of adventure, we decided to add a touch of mischief by casting actors from the Commonwealth, as well as more mature talents in their 60s and 70s, and, you guessed it, quite a few accomplished actresses. The key factor was whether the actor could convincingly embody the required dignity, elegance, and allure needed to portray Britain’s most iconic secret agent.

    Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

As a follower, I’m more than just a charmer; I’ve got an insatiable craving for thrills, with a streak of destruction and promiscuity that often follows. This role, the iconic James Bond, is a perfect fit for me, considering my portrayal of villain Ray Marcus in “Nocturnal Animals” back in 2016 earned me a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actor. You might recognize me from other roles too, like Dave Lizewski in the action-comedy “Kick-Ass,” Pietro Maximoff in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and as a wisecracking assassin in “Bullet Train.” My diverse roles demonstrate that I can embody both the complex, justice-driven and quick-thinking aspects of 007.

    Theo James

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Given Theo James’ successful portrayal of Four in the “Divergent” film series, it seems fitting to consider him for another well-known literary adaptation. At 39 years old and hailing from Oxford, James brings a rugged allure and distinct British toughness to his on-screen roles, as evidenced by his recent performance as Eddie Horniman, the aristocratic drug lord in “The Gentlemen” on Netflix. Additionally, James has demonstrated heroic qualities, having lent his voice to Marvel’s “X-Men ’97.” With such versatility and enduring appeal, one could easily imagine James commanding an Aston Martin.

    Paul Mescal

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Originally from County Kildare, Ireland, Paul Mescal was a prolific soccer player during his youth, which could prove beneficial for the athleticism needed in a potential new James Bond character. His career took off with his performance in “Normal People,” earning him an Emmy nomination and establishing him as a romantic idol. The actor, who received an Oscar nod, demonstrates his action skills in “Gladiator II.” Prior to the release of Ridley Scott’s epic, “Spectre,” Andrew Scott, who starred in that film, discussed Mescal potentially taking on the role of 007 with EbMaster. Scott expressed, “He’d likely make a fantastic James Bond.” However, Scott added, “I’d like to see him in ‘Gladiator’ first.

    Callum Turner

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

More recently, Callum Turner steered the ship in the sports drama “The Boys in The Boat.” Although rowing might have refined his appearance and physique, portraying an athlete is just one of the many talents he possesses. He played a charming love interest to Anya Taylor-Joy in the 2020 version of Jane Austen’s “Emma,” and has appeared in a wide range of movies, such as the film adaptation of the video game “Assassin’s Creed” and the Harry Potter spin-off “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.” Earlier this year, he took on the role of Maj. John ‘Bucky’ Egan opposite Austin Butler in the Steven Spielberg-produced “Masters of The Air,” a miniseries that showcased his ability to perform aerial combat scenes. This skill could be particularly beneficial for any future Bond films where 007 needs to parachute from a moving plane or execute flying stunts with sophistication.

    James Norton

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

He’s been a brutal sociopath (in “Happy Valley”), a tipsy vicar (in “Grantchester”) and a conman (in “Rogue Agent”). Raised in North Yorkshire, the 37-year old falls just in the upper age range of the ideal Bond, but his piercing gaze and seductive smile put him squarely in the league of actors who can provide both sex appeal and action chops. Norton started out in theology school and pursued Buddhism before turning to acting full-time, which could help him bring a soulful dimension to the super-spy. For his role in mini-series “McMafia,” he rocked a tux, learned martial arts and spoke in Russian – all excellent skills for the next Bond.

    Regé-Jean Page

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

The surge of interest in “Bridgerton” initially raised Bond’s suspicions when he posted “Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred” prior to the debut of Season 1 on Netflix. Since then, the 34-year-old has amassed a dedicated fanbase who eagerly anticipate him taking over as the next James Bond. At present, odds are in his favor, with bookmakers predicting a 50% chance that he’ll be selected for the role. With his handsome appearance and captivating performance style, there is no question that Page would excel as Bond. Moreover, he has not only proven himself as a romantic lead in “Bridgerton”, but also demonstrated his action skills in the Netflix hit “The Gray Man”. Additionally, his career has been on an upward trajectory over the past few years, placing him at the perfect stage between being relatively unknown and becoming a household name – a position that could result in a successful and prolonged tenure as Bond.

    Damson Idris

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Actor Damson Idris, known for his role in “Snowfall,” has been rumored to have auditioned for the Bond producers. UK bookmakers quickly placed him among the leading candidates for the role when this news surfaced. The 31-year old London native was born to Nigerian parents and began his acting career onstage before landing the part of Franklin Saint, an American drug dealer in “Snowfall.” He has also appeared in shows like “Black Mirror” and “Swarm.” Although he doesn’t have extensive experience in thrillers or large-scale productions, his background in sports such as football and rugby could prove useful during demanding action scenes.

    Henry Cavill

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

henry cavill is recognized primarily as the british actor who portrayed superman in the dc extended universe, but he has also demonstrated versatility in playing action roles. he starred as napoleon solo in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”, august walker/ john lark in “Mission Impossible – Fallout”, and took on the role of sherlock holmes in the “Enola Holmes” films. his action prowess is further evident in his performance of stunts as the lead in netflix’s “The Witcher.” while cavill possesses the charisma to embody bond, he might be too associated with superman for another iconic role.

    Aaron Pierre

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

As a massive movie enthusiast, I can’t help but imagine Aaron Pierre stepping into the role of James Bond if the opportunity ever arises. Standing tall at 6-foot-3 with his broad shoulders and captivating hazel eyes, this Brixton native has already proven himself as an action star, showcasing his martial arts, boxing, and Brazilian Jujitsu skills in the surprise hit “Rebel Ridge.” His intelligence is equally impressive – Aaron is a classically trained actor, having graduated from the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His portrayal of Cassio in “Othello” earned him a significant role in Barry Jenkins’ historical drama “The Underground Railroad.” Moreover, he has demonstrated his ability to embody an icon, taking on the role of Malcolm X in NatGeo’s “Genius: MLK/X.” In the near future, we’ll get to hear his deep, resonant voice as Mufasa in Disney’s “The Lion King” prequel. It’s a dream to think about Aaron Pierre donning the tuxedo and taking on the mantle of 007!

    Richard Madden

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Following his successful stints in the Marvel and “Game of Thrones” fanbases, Richard Madden is now preparing for another franchise. Known as Robb Stark on “Game of Thrones”, Madden demonstrated his action skills effectively during the show’s intense battle sequences. Madden won a Golden Globe for his performance as Sergeant David Budd in “Bodyguard”, a war veteran suffering from PTSD, and he seems perfectly suited to play a more sophisticated Bond. Although his characters may not be as hard-hearted as 007, the new Bond needs to be more advanced than his predecessors. At 36 years old, Madden’s main challenge will likely be juggling another action-filled spy series: the Russo brothers’ upcoming Amazon Prime Video show “Citadel”, where he co-stars with Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

    Henry Golding

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

As a passionate movie enthusiast, let me express my excitement over Henry Golding’s captivating performances. Unlike certain Bonds who might lack humor and charm, Golding embodies the perfect blend of British elegance, sharp wit, and an undeniable allure that makes him stand out.

    Lucien Laviscount

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Lucien Laviscount is currently captivating audiences as Emily’s love interest in “Emily in Paris,” which boosted his international popularity. There are rumors that he could be the next James Bond contender. In the UK, he has been a familiar face since his teen years, appearing regularly in shows like “Grange Hill,” “Waterloo Road,” “Celebrity Big Brother,” and particularly “Coronation Street.” In the US, you might recognize him from “Scream Queens,” “Snatch,” and “Katy Keene.” Could the charming Lancashire native be the right fit to wear the Bond suit? Despite having limited leading roles, he is charismatic to a fault. The Daily Mail commented, “Lucien checks all the boxes. He’s a highly skilled actor, incredibly handsome, and in the last 18 months, he has gained many new fans since joining ‘Emily In Paris.’ Bond producers are already saying that he could easily slip into the 007 tuxedo, how well-suited and fitting he would look.

    Dev Patel

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

If Dev Patel takes on the role of James Bond, he could bring a fresh take to the franchise that the producers have expressed a desire for. His performance as the conflicted hero in “Green Knight” showcases his potential as an action star, making him a strong choice to wear the tuxedo and pursue villains. Additionally, at 32 years old and being a BAFTA winner, he is still young enough to lead the franchise for several more decades. To top it off, Patel’s mustache has certainly caught people’s attention!

    Andrew Garfield

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

39-year-old Andrew Garfield has shown versatility in his roles since his debut as Spider-Man, leading many to believe he’s capable of playing any character imaginable. From portraying a Facebook co-founder billionaire to a Mormon detective questioning his faith while solving a murder, and even a late composer and playwright like Jonathan Larson, Garfield has proven he can deliver. Given this range, it’s not hard to imagine him excelling as Bond, James Bond. In fact, his extensive training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama could add a unique theatrical touch to the character that might otherwise be overshadowed by action scenes.

    Tom Hardy

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Apart from Tom Hiddleston, another actor named Tom Hardy has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the next James Bond. His schedule might be too busy to allow him to play the role for a decade or more, but he’s already established as an action star. He’s shown his mettle in films like “Warrior,” “The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” and numerous others, and he even managed to break Batman’s back in “The Dark Knight Rises.” It seems he might soon engage in a fight with Spider-Man as Venom. His martial arts skills in real life could be useful if Bond ever needs to use hand-to-hand combat to defeat a villain. However, at 45 years old, he’s approaching the age range that is typically preferred for playing the role over a long period.

    Daryl McCormack

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Previously known for his roles in hard-edged TV series like “Vikings” and “Peaky Blinders”, McCormack made a breakthrough this year with the Sundance film “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”. In this role as the titular gigolo, he demonstrated a captivating intensity, expertly guiding Emma Thompson through the movie’s entirety in a hotel room setting. With his compelling screen presence, the young Irish actor is ready to resonate deeply with viewers; all he needs now is an iconic role to fill. Given his youthful age of 29, McCormack could comfortably slip into Bond’s Crockett & Jones oxfords for many years to come.

    Joe Alwyn

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Joe Alwyn, often referred to as the internet’s favorite “London Boy,” is the significant other of a renowned pop star, but his acting talents are evident in his roles as Henry Wallace in “Boy Erased” and Nick in Hulu’s “Conversations with Friends.” While he may not be a spy in real life, it’s easy to envision him donning a tuxedo and embodying the role of James Bond. Such a casting could introduce a youthful, tender aspect to the suave secret agent, and also tie together the universes of Fleabag, Sally Rooney, Taylor Swift, and Phoebe Bridgers.

    Jacob Elordi

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Following Craig’s 15-year service, it’s now crucial for a fresh Bond character to emerge, catering to the younger generation. It’s overdue for 007 to revert back to his original persona as a skilled, charming, and ruthless character. Who could fit this role better than Elordi, the tall and handsome Australian actor, still representing the Commonwealth! His roles in “Euphoria” and “The Kissing Booth” trilogy have shown an undeniable threatening edge. In Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film, he’ll portray Elvis Presley – a sign of art-house recognition! He also has a unique, yet undefined screen presence that audiences haven’t fully connected with yet. A successful reboot requires a clean slate. Crucially, Elordi is only 25 years old, which offers ample opportunity for multiple new films in the future.

    Jamie Dornan

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Among those fitting to carry on the Irish acting legacy of Pierce Brosnan, none seem more suitable than Jamie Dornan. Fresh from two critically acclaimed performances in “Belfast” and “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” Dornan has demonstrated his versatility and ability to captivate audiences, particularly in intense roles like the Irish TV series “The Fall.” (Regardless of personal opinions on “Fifty Shades of Grey,” it’s clear why he was chosen for its mysterious, brooding lead.) Unfortunately, Dornan’s upcoming projects are currently limited – a disappointment, but this also means that he could potentially be open to embarking on a new franchise that leverages his distinct talents.

    Lashana Lynch

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

In the subsequent Bond film, consider advancing the storyline by featuring Lashana Lynch’s character, Nomi, who assumed the 007 role from Daniel Craig’s Bond in “No Time to Die.” Her performance as a capable and fierce successor was evident, making her an ideal candidate. Lynch demonstrates her action prowess, as showcased in her remarkable portrayal in “The Woman King.” A daring move for the franchise would be to have Nomi inherit the series with a mix of new and familiar characters, embarking on spy missions following Craig’s Bond’s demise.

    Jonathan Bailey

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Actor Bailey, known for his roles in “Bridgerton” and other productions, has been a thespian since childhood. At 34, he boasts a substantial resume in theater and television, with credits like the West End hit “Cock” and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s series “Crashing.” While his film roles are limited (except for his upcoming part as Fiyero in the “Wicked” movie adaptations), this leaves ample opportunity for him to make a mark, potentially taking on the role of Bond. Given Bailey’s captivating performance of passion in “Bridgerton,” it could be intriguing to see how he might embody that trait in a Bond character, both in his spy adventures and romantic entanglements. Moreover, since Bailey openly identifies as gay, there’s speculation that he could become the first LGBTQ lead in the Bond franchise.

    Tom Ellis

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

A Welsh James Bond? Could be considered sacrilege by some, but with a face like Tom Ellis’, we could probably make an exception. Breaking into Hollywood as the Prince of Darkness in the Fox turned Netflix original drama “Lucifer,” Ellis’ bad boy charisma could bring a whole new edge to the world of James Bond. At 45 years old, he’s at the upper end of the age range for a 007 who can go the distances, but he’s certainly got the physique that lends itself to super spy espionage.

    Oliver Jackson-Cohen

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

A fresh, up-and-coming actor who’s on the brink of reaching A-list fame could potentially take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig. Oliver Jackson-Cohen is expected to keep climbing the ladder in the upcoming years, making him a suitable choice for 007 within an appropriate timeframe. His impressive work in horror series like “The Haunting of Bly Manor” and “The Haunting of Hill House” demonstrates his ability to add an element of suspense and tension to Bond films. Furthermore, Jackson-Cohen’s award-winning performance as a villain in “The Invisible Man” showcases his versatility. However, at 38 years old, he hasn’t yet displayed the action or fighting skills that some other candidates on this list have demonstrated.

    John Boyega

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Given John Boyega’s successful run in the Star Wars series, it’s not surprising that he might be considering another major franchise. If you’ve had a chance to watch his acting roles, you’ll see that he possesses an endearing charm, intensity, and sincerity. At only 30 years old, he would actually be eight years younger than Daniel Craig was when he began with “Casino Royale.” This brings up an interesting thought: what if Bond were portrayed as a young, inexperienced agent, still eager to serve his country (or whatever). It could resemble the calm, cool demeanor of George Lazenby’s Bond, rather than the more angsty persona we saw in “No Time to Die.

    Will Poulter

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

29-year-old Will Poulter, who recently received an Emmy nomination for “Dopesick” and has been making waves in Hollywood, could potentially take on the role of the next James Bond. He’s just secured a significant part in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” but he’s also known for appearances in various films from the 2010s such as the comedy “We’re the Millers,” the YA sci-fi film “The Maze Runner,” and the indie horror movie “Midsommar.” Given his upcoming action-packed role, a blockbuster like a Bond movie might be his next step. Additionally, he has already transformed his physique to fit his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy.

    Joseph Quinn

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my strong conviction that Joseph Quinn, the 28-year-old British sensation from “Stranger Things”, would make an exceptional choice for the younger 007. His captivating charm and talent, particularly evident in his portrayal of Eddie Munson, leave me eager to witness what he could accomplish with a franchise all his own. Moreover, if Quinn can embody the style and panache of Eddie’s Heavy Metal look from the ’80s, one can only imagine how dashingly suave he would be in Bond’s iconic tuxedo.

    Michaela Coel

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

The Broccoli family is openly seeking a male actor to step into 007’s iconic black shoes, yet Michaela Coel would flawlessly embody a female Bond character. Renowned for her captivating performances in “I May Destroy You,” “Black Mirror,” and “The Aliens,” Coel is also slated to appear in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and bring her espionage skills to the forefront in the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” Amazon series. If a female Bond isn’t an option, perhaps the script for the next installment could introduce a compelling new MI6 agent similar to Coel instead.

    Jodie Turner-Smith

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

After shining brilliantly in the leading role of “Queen & Slim” in 2019 and sharing the screen with Colin Farrell in this year’s “After Yang”, Jodie Turner-Smith has demonstrated her exceptional and captivating acting skills. If the “Bond” series were to make a groundbreaking change by casting a woman, Turner-Smith could be an unconventional yet compelling choice that would not fail to impress. For those who may have doubts about her action abilities, they can look forward to 2021’s “Without Remorse”, where she played a skilled lieutenant commander under the direction of Michael B. Jordan.

    Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Apart from his powerful performances, Dírísù’s potential for playing James Bond primarily stems from his extensive work within the spy genre. The British-Nigerian actor garnered attention with his role as detective Elliot Finch on the crime drama “Gangs of London,” earning him a nomination for the Rising Star Award at the 2020 BAFTAs. However, some may question whether Dírísù can convincingly portray Bond’s casual charm as a ladies’ man. This doubt was effectively put to rest through his portrayal of the dashing bachelor Mr. Malcolm in “Mr. Malcolm’s List” – his suits and breeches have rarely looked more appealing.

    Idris Elba

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Ever since Craig stepped down from his role as Bond, Idris Elba has been the name on everyone’s lips as the potential successor. With his strong presence, charisma, and undeniable good looks, Elba certainly fits the bill. Many actors, producers, and directors have advocated for him to take up the Bond mantle. For a while, it seemed like we might finally see Elba in that sharp tuxedo. Regrettably, Elba himself has expressed disinterest but has suggested that they consider a fresh approach when casting. Frankly, at 50 years old, he may not wish to commit to the franchise for another decade or more.

    Marwan Kenzari

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Ever since the initial glimpses of Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” were unveiled, there was a palpable buzz among audiences, not centered on Aladdin himself or even Will Smith’s genie, but rather the actor portraying the villain Jafar. And this was just from the trailer. Marwan Kenzari infused genuine tension and significance into a character that was once purely animated, and his popularity soared further with an outstanding performance in the action film “The Old Guard.” Hailing from the Netherlands and boasting Tunisian roots, this versatile actor has an action-packed future ahead: apart from a sequel to “The Old Guard,” he’s slated to appear in “Black Adam.” He’s tailor-made for blockbusters and franchises, eagerly ready to take center stage.

    Nikesh Patel

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

London resident, Patel, has been garnering more interest following the debut of HBO Max’s “Starstruck,” a humorous, romantic series in which his character discovers she’s been romantically involved with A-list actor Tom Kapoor, portrayed by Patel himself. He demonstrates the essential coolness and self-assuredness required for Bond-like characters through his acting skills. Notably, he has also completed filming on Prime Video’s forthcoming British suspense series “The Devil’s Hour,” where he takes on the role of a sympathetic detective leading a manhunt. With performances in both romantic comedies and thrillers, Patel’s diverse acting background is expected to deliver a nuanced portrayal that accurately depicts Bond’s intricate personality.

    Kedar Williams-Stirling

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Overnight, Williams-Stirling gained iconic status for his compelling portrayal of Jackson Marchetti, the confused athlete, in “Sex Education” on Netflix. However, there’s speculation that this heartthrob might trade in his Speedos for Orlebar Brown sky-blue trunks. Originating from Manchester, he has also graced other TV shows such as the action series “Shank,” the Shakespearean show “Will,” and the teen fantasy “Wolfblood.” Additionally, he’s been featured in lower-budget films like “Changeland.” If he lands a role in the next Bond film, it would undoubtedly catapult this rising Netflix star into more prestigious movie projects.

    Emily Blunt

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

If the Broccoli production team were to reconsider their stance on a female James Bond character, they might find Emily Blunt an excellent choice. Known for her captivating and distinctive performances in the U.K., Blunt is currently busy with only a few upcoming projects before she becomes available for more. At around 40 years old, she is of the right age to dedicate herself to multiple films. She can seamlessly transition from being sharp and strategic in one scene to being tender and emotionally moving in another. Moreover, her impressive action skills, demonstrated in “Edge of Tomorrow,” show that Blunt has the ability to handle the physical demands that the role might entail.

    Matt Berry

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Let’s add a dash of humor to Bond, shall we? “What We Do in the Shadows” star and U.K. alt-comedy mainstay Matt Berry is a perfect goofball in a debonair suit, an unconventional ladies’ man whose velvety voice and idiosyncratic pronunciations would make Bond girls swoon. Add his long coif and thick beard for “Shadows” and you could tap into a new type of fan. Plus he’s an accomplished singer and songwriter…could he be the first Bond to croon his own theme?

    Riz Ahmed

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Amongst actors, particularly those who are British, approaching or beyond the age of 40, very few can match Riz Ahmed’s captivating charm. As a dedicated producer, a British-Pakistani talent, and an electrifying performer in diverse projects like “The Night Of,” “Sound of Metal” (earning him an Oscar nomination), and “Rogue One,” it is evident that Riz Ahmed would effortlessly bring something fresh to one of cinema’s most renowned and well-traversed roles. The fact that he would also look outstanding in Bond’s traditional tuxedos merely adds to his appeal for the role.

    Jason Wong

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Jason Wong, with years of experience in Wing Chun kung fu and Brazilian jiu-jitsu under his belt, likely won’t bat an eye at Bond’s daring feats. Although not as widely recognized as some other actors, his role as Dralas in the much-anticipated “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” might just be the career-defining part for this 36-year-old actor. With a solid background in action films like “The 355” and “Wrath of Man,” Wong could potentially make history as the first Asian Bond.

    Nicholas Galitzine

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

At the age of thirty, Nicholas Galitzine might not have the life experiences commonly associated with a Bond character. Yet, following standout performances in “Red, White & Royal Blue” (2023) and “The Idea of You” this year, his youth seems almost inconsequential when considering his charismatic appeal. This young actor has demonstrated an impressive capacity for romantic allure. Galitzine further showcased his talents in the 2024 drama “Mary & George,” where he acted alongside Julianne Moore as her character’s son, George Villiers. In this production, Galitzine’s character was tasked with winning influence over King James I by becoming the monarch’s secret lover. With a natural aptitude for seduction and some action star training, Galitzine appears well on his way to becoming an excellent candidate for 007.

    Alfred Enoch

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Originating from renowned series such as “Harry Potter” and “How to Get Away with Murder,” British actor Alfred Enoch is an intriguing candidate for the next James Bond. His radiant smile can effectively light up in instances where Bond requires his charisma to advance his objectives, while his athleticism, showcased notably during a 2016 theater performance of “King Lear,” could make a striking impact when it comes to saving the day. Additionally, Enoch has previously starred in the sci-fi series “Foundation” and will feature in Anand Tucker’s forthcoming thriller “The Critic.

    Nicholas Hoult

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Known for his captivating blue eyes and youthful appeal, Nicholas Hoult has been a heartthrob ever since his days playing Tony Stonem in the British dramedy series “Skins.” At 32 years old, this versatile actor has showcased his talent in action films, from brandishing medieval weapons in “Jack the Giant Slayer” to transforming into the mutant Beast in the “X-Men” series. Furthermore, Hoult has charmed audiences with unconventional characters such as the undead R in “Warm Bodies” and the psychotic Nux in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Therefore, it’s clear that the star of “The Great” possesses the ability to bring a similar depth and attractiveness to the role of Bond.

    Fabien Frankel

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Fabien Frankel, the charismatic actor from Westeros, has demonstrated in the first season of “House of the Dragon” that he can handle high temperatures. Known for his role as Dornish romantic interest Criston Cole, Frankel’s acting resume is relatively small. However, at just over 20 years into his career, there is ample opportunity ahead for him to meet the 15-year expectation set by the Broccoli family. Moreover, if he can master a longsword, why not a PPK handgun?

    Delroy Lindo

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

This London-born actor fits the bill perfectly: charming, stylish, refined, and dapper in formal attire. Despite his age (he’s celebrating his 70th birthday this year), he could still be paired with a formidable female counterpart – think Michelle Pfeiffer, Angela Bassett, or Michelle Yeoh – who would definitely keep him on his toes. The thought of a mature and sophisticated Bond sharing a drink with you is quite enticing, even if it’s more about clever banter than physical prowess. This concept certainly leaves us intrigued and eager!

    Tom Hiddleston

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of “Loki” has proven that he looks outstanding in formal attire, and this has sparked discussions about him potentially playing James Bond. Should the Marvel star decide to take on the role, his sophisticated charm and good looks, combined with a knack for adding humor, make him an ideal candidate. His witty portrayal of Loki demonstrates his ability to bring a comical touch to serious roles, which could be a fresh addition to Bond’s character. If the Bond producers are looking to create a buzz with their casting choice, Hiddleston already has a substantial fanbase from “Loki” who would eagerly support him in his next big project.

    Harris Dickinson

In the upcoming thriller “Babygirl,” Harris Dickinson might be seen as eye candy alongside Nicole Kidman, but don’t let that fool you. At just 28 years old, he showcases a depth and range in his acting that fans may not fully appreciate yet. Born in Essex, this talented actor has the charm and sophistication that could make him an excellent choice for James Bond. He demonstrated this versatility by playing an insecure male model and influencer in the Oscar-nominated “Triangle of Sadness” and a golden boy in the adaptation of Delia Owens’ novel “Where The Crawdads Sing.” Moreover, his physical prowess, as shown in “The Iron Claw” where he wrestled opposite Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, could lend itself well to the high-intensity action sequences and combat scenes required for the role of 007.

    Pierce Brosnan

Who Should Be the Next James Bond? 45 Picks for the New 007

It’s not unusual for actors portraying Bond to reprise their roles following a break. For instance, Sean Connery was persuaded to put on the bow tie again for “Diamonds Are Forever” in 1971, after George Lazenby’s attempt in 1969’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Fans are still hoping that Pierce Brosnan, who was dismissed from the role of James Bond following four financially successful films, might return to the franchise for a standalone adventure much like Hugh Jackman’s later Wolverine film, “Logan.” Given that his final Bond film, “Die Another Day,” was the highest-grossing in the series at the time, it’s clear that his appeal as Bond was undiminished. Therefore, some argue that he deserves a fitting farewell that acknowledges his talents. Brosnan, who still looks great with his silver hair and rugged good looks, has given impressive performances in films like “The Ghost Writer,” the “Mamma Mia!” movies, and “The Son.” So, it might be time to reissue his license to kill.
