For 20 Years It Was Hidden Who Dubbed One of MGS3 Key Characters. Long-Held Secret Finally Unveiled

As a seasoned gamer with a memory that stretches back to the early days of gaming, I must admit that the revelation of Jodi Benson as the voice of EVA in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was quite a surprising twist! Growing up, I’d always associated her voice with the bubbly and lively Ariel from The Little Mermaid, so hearing it coming from such an enigmatic character like EVA was a delightful surprise.

In May, the long-circulating rumors about a remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” were validated when Konami Studio officially announced it during this year’s PlayStation Showcase. The revamped third installment was given the name “Delta,” symbolizing the changes, by the studio.

This opportunity offers the studio a fantastic chance to resurrect the stealth series, disclosing hitherto secret details. Among these secrets is unveiling the actress portraying the character of EVA.

A story straight out of a fairy tale

Without a doubt, one of the key figures in the storyline of MGS3 is EVA, who assists the main character during “Snake Eater” operation. Her voice was provided by an unnamed actress going by the alias Suzetta Minet; however, her true identity has been kept confidential for the last two decades.

In the third installment of the special “Legacy Series,” presenter David Hayter disclosed that Jodi Benson assumed the part of EVA. Known for playing characters like Ariel in the original Little Mermaid and Barbie in Pixar’s Toy Story, it’s worth noting that her past roles differ somewhat from her role in Metal Gear Solid.

Benson’s choice was swayed by the fact that the dubbing director was influenced by the actress’s past work, which primarily catered to a young audience. Remarkably, her pet dog was the source of her pen name.

My supervisor suggested a possible name change during our meeting, saying something along the lines of, ‘Perhaps it’s time for a new moniker.’ She then inquired, ‘What was your pet dog’s name when you were young?’ To which I responded, ‘Suzette Monet.’ She pondered and proposed, ‘How about we incorporate that? How about Suzetta instead of Monet, like the artist? Let’s go with Minet instead.’

Over the course of two decades, a tiny untruth went undetected, preserving Jodi Benson’s pristine reputation, famed for family-friendly films. Does her voice in the role of EVA remind you of Ariel?
