As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for British humor and a penchant for period pieces, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming comedy “Fackham Hall.” The casting is nothing short of brilliant, with Damian Lewis, Tom Felton, and Ben Radcliffe joining Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston, and Emma Laird. This film seems to be a perfect blend of the wit and absurdity found in classics like “Airplane!” and the “Monty Python” movies.
Actor Damian Lewis from “Billions,” Tom Felton known for his work in the “Harry Potter” series, and Ben Radcliffe from “Masters of the Air” have been added to the cast of the British period comedy “Fackham Hall.” Already on board are Thomasin McKenzie, Katherine Waterston, and Emma Laird.
The movie, helmed by director Jim O’Hanlon and scripted by comedian Jimmy Carr (who also takes on a secondary character), kicks off its main filming in the United Kingdom starting this week.
Mews Films and Two & Two Pictures are producing, with Bleecker Street releasing in the U.S.
The movie “Fackham Hall” is humorously reminiscent of the style seen in films like “Airplane!” and “Monty Python,” with writers Jimmy Carr, Patrick Carr, and the Dawson Brothers at the helm. In this story, Eric Noone (played by Radcliffe), a lovable pickpocket, finds employment at Fackham Hall, an English manor house. As he climbs the ranks, he develops a forbidden romance with Rose Davenport (McKenzie), the lady of the house. However, when an unforeseen murder takes place, Eric becomes the prime suspect, casting doubt on Rose’s family’s future. Lewis plays Lord Davenport, while Felton portrays Archibald, Eric’s main competitor for Rose’s affection.
The movie will be produced by Kris Thykier and Danny Perkins under their shared production company Mews Films, which operates within Archery Pictures, as well as Mila Cottray for Two & Two Pictures. The executive producers are Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson from Bleecker Street, Babak Anvari and Lucan Toh from Two & Two Pictures, Danielle Brandon and Georgia Goldsack from Archery Pictures, Nick Shumaker and David Levine from Anonymous Content. Ashland Hill Media Finance is providing complete financing for the project, and Simon Williams, Joe Simpson, and Jonathan Bross will serve as executive producers as well.
The International rights for the film are being handled by veterans, while Bleecker Street obtained the domestic rights in 2023 following its debut at TIFF. Their intention is to distribute the movie across the country in the year 2025.
Director O’Hanlon expressed his enthusiasm about commencing the main filming for ‘Fackham Hall’. He remarked that the team has gathered an exceptional cast, a feat that would be admired by any British period drama aficionados. However, it’s important to note that our production isn’t a serious British period drama but rather a riotously funny, side-splitting, even Earl Grey tea-snorting British period comedy. Fortunately, our talented cast members are not only capable of making viewers cry with their dramatic performances, but they can also make audiences laugh out loud. So, we’re combining the best of both worlds in this film! I’m really looking forward to getting started on this project.
The producers Thykier, Perkins, and Cottray expressed their excitement: “We’re excited to begin filming on what looks set to be a side-splitting, distinctly British comedy adventure. With an exceptional cast and a script as sharp as Jimmy Carr’s wit (co-written by the talented Dawson Brothers), this movie is going to be a laugh riot, blending intelligence, audacity, and a passion for the bizarre from beginning to end. We can’t wait to breathe life into this one-of-a-kind parody and, eventually, share it with audiences worldwide!
As a movie enthusiast, I foresee that upcoming film studies classes will casually compare “Fackham Hall” with the esteemed Merchant Ivory Productions. However, such comparison would not be a compliment to Merchant Ivory, but rather a critique of “Fackham Hall”.
