Maria Bakalova and Peter Mullan to Star in Thriller ‘No Way Off’ From ‘Downton Abbey’ Director

As a seasoned cinematic aficionado with a penchant for suspense thrillers and a soft spot for unconventional narratives, I must say that “No Way Off” has piqued my interest significantly. The casting of Maria Bakalova, who has shown an impressive range in her acting capabilities, opposite Peter Mullan, a seasoned veteran with a knack for portraying complex characters, promises an intriguing dynamic.

Maria Bakalova, known for portraying Ivana Trump on “The Apprentice,” will be featured alongside Peter Mullan in the upcoming suspenseful thriller titled “No Way Off.” This film is being showcased to global distributors by Altitude at this week’s American Film Market taking place in Las Vegas.

The film, penned by Gaby Hull, will see the guidance of director Brian Kelly, renowned for “Downton Abbey” and “Dracula”. Matthew James Wilkinson (“Yesterday”) is taking on the role of producer under his Stigma Films label.

This film takes cues from one-setting thrillers like “The Shallows,” “Buried,” and “Crawl.” It unfolds on Christmas Eve, focusing on Laura, a young mother who waits with her infant son at a bus stop. When the bus arrives, its driver wears a Santa mask made of latex. Laura boards, collapses into her seat, overwhelmed by exhaustion and stress. After a short while, she dozes off. Upon waking, it’s nighttime, and the bus is speeding down a motorway, far from its typical route. With only her sleeping baby as company, Laura finds herself alone on the bus. She can’t outrun the driver; her only option is to outwit him, according to the plot summary.

Kelly expressed her excitement, stating, ‘At long last, my dreams are realized! The stellar cast and thrilling plot of No Way Off promise an unforgettable experience – I can hardly wait!’

Maria Bakalova is managed by multiple agencies: Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Brookside Artist Management, Insight Management & Production, Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, and others. Similarly, Peter Mullan is represented by Markham, Froggatt & Irwin.
