Former McDonald’s chef reveals why hash browns aren’t served all day long

As a longtime McDonald’s enthusiast and connoisseur of their delectable breakfast items, I must admit my disappointment when learning that hash browns are not served all day. Having followed former McDonald’s chef Mike Haracz on TikTok and being privy to his insider secrets, I have gained a deeper understanding of the corporation’s strict standards and the reasons behind their decisions.

Despite customers wanting McDonald’s to serve hash browns all day, there are strict reasons why they don’t.

Mike Haracz, a former employee of McDonald’s, has amassed more than 315,000 followers on TikTok by sharing stories about his time working at the fast-food giant. His posts often reveal behind-the-scenes insights from the corporation, which many find fascinating.

In a recent article, Haracz clarified why McDonald’s can’t offer hash browns throughout the day. The primary cause lies in the fact that hash browns and fries are cooked at distinct temperatures when it comes to their frying oil.

He pointed out that both the hash browns and the fries are cooked in the same deep-fryer, but their high-quality counterparts have separate temperatures for the oil to ensure proper cooking.

If McDonald’s used the same frying oil for all items on their menu, they wouldn’t be able to maintain their high-quality standards.)

According to the McDonald’s Gold Standard, all our ingredients and food are prepared in our kitchens, adhering to stringent quality guidelines that cover aspects like quality, visual appeal, flavor, texture, and food safety.

Furthermore, Haracz stated that due to the popularity of fries, not only hash browns but also fries might not fit properly underneath the heating lamps, requiring additional space for the latter.

Additionally, he pointed out that offering both menu items around the clock requires additional workforce. This implies that McDonald’s might need an even larger number of employees during each shift.

Despite several viewers comprehending the reasoning behind the ex-McDonald’s chef’s decision to avoid serving hash browns throughout the day, this choice still left an equal number of people disheartened due to their inability to order hash browns at any time during business hours.

“I miss all-day hash browns,” wrote a viewer. “I only go there for the hash browns,” added another.

It remains uncertain whether McDonald’s will reintroduce the option for customers to order breakfast items throughout the day.

Previously, the corporation didn’t have permission to repair its own ice cream machines, but as of October, they are now authorized to do so. As a result, you can expect your late-night McFlurry cravings to be catered to in the future.
