As a long-time fan who grew up with Harry Potter, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel to Hogwarts Legacy! The fact that it could potentially tie into the new TV series is just the icing on the cake. I remember waiting in line for hours to get my hands on each new book, and now, decades later, we’re still exploring this magical world.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but get excited as Warner Bros. Games announces they’re working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy! The original game was a massive success in 2023, breaking records as the top-selling game in the US and selling over 30 million copies worldwide. Now, with fresh details about the upcoming sequel and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s overall plans for gaming on the horizon, it’s safe to say that the magic is only getting stronger!
David Haddad, president of WB Games, hinted at a possible connection between Hogwarts Legacy (or its yet-to-be-named sequel) and the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The specifics of this connection are still unclear, but it’s an exciting possibility. It’s worth noting that Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1890s while the TV series is expected to follow the storyline of the Harry Potter books, which unfold in the 1990s.
Regardless of the situation, Haddad stated, “For some time now, we’ve been aware that fans are seeking more in life, so we’ve been dedicating considerable effort to brainstorm ideas about this.” He continued: “Our findings suggest that there aren’t significant differences between younger and older fans. They’re all avid Harry Potter fans, and our aim is to create genuine experiences that will delight them.
The executive added that the massive triumph of Hogwarts Legacy convinced the larger organization that it was wise to keep pouring resources into the Harry Potter franchise.
He mentioned that everyone else in the company was quite intrigued by the mystery we unveiled with Hogwarts Legacy last year, according to him.
2023 saw Hogwarts Legacy outperform Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III in terms of sales within the United States, marking a significant achievement for the game.
In the interview, it was made clear by Robert Oberschelp, head of Warner Bros. Discovery, that J.K. Rowling will not have direct involvement in the Harry Potter series moving forward. However, he explained that her agent is kept informed if WBD’s teams wish to discuss anything beyond the established canon. The controversy surrounding Rowling’s remarks about the transgender community remains a contentious issue for the magical franchise.
Beyond Hogwarts Legacy 2, it appears that Warner Bros. is also working on a comprehensive version of Hogwarts Legacy called the Definitive Edition, offering extra narrative elements. Originally, Hogwarts Legacy didn’t include Quidditch matches, but a standalone Quidditch game titled Quidditch Champions was launched in September.
In the 2000s, the Harry Potter movie franchise enjoyed immense popularity, and an offshoot called Fantastic Beasts was attempted. Following three movies, this series temporarily stopped production. Now, actor Jude Law, who portrays a younger Albus Dumbledore in the series, hinted that the franchise might have come to an end.
Currently, the production team is developing a new TV series featuring characters Harry, Ron, and Hermione, with auditions underway for the main roles. (Harry, Ron, and Hermione are the three leads.)
