As a long-time Nintendo enthusiast who’s seen the evolution of their consoles from the humble NES to the versatile Switch, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as we approach the unveiling of the Switch successor. Having grown up with the charm of Mario, Link, and Samus, I’ve come to appreciate Nintendo’s unique approach to gaming – one that often defies conventions and delivers experiences that are uniquely their own.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but share some exciting news that’s been buzzing in the community: By the end of March 2025, Nintendo has promised to unveil their next-gen console – the successor to the beloved Switch! This announcement was made by company president Shuntaro Furukawa during a recent online press conference following the release of Nintendo’s latest earnings. He confirmed that plans for the Switch’s successor remain unchanged, so we’re all eagerly waiting for what’s next from our favorite gaming powerhouse!
It appears that experts are finding it challenging to foresee Nintendo announcing anything this year, as such a move might influence sales during the 2024 holiday shopping period. According to Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda, speaking to Reuters, it would not be wise to draw focus away from a potential new console release amidst the crucial year-end buying season.
Over the remaining part of the fiscal year, Nintendo has adjusted its prediction for Switch hardware sales from 13.5 million to 12.5 million units. In his statement via VGC, Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned that the platform, having been on the market for eight years, continues to experience consistent demand for both hardware and software, with strong sales.
As a devoted Nintendo fan, it’s disheartening to learn about their recent 34% dip in overall net sales. Specifically, hardware and software sales have taken a hit, plummeting by 31% and 27.6%, respectively. However, it’s crucial to remember the stellar year Nintendo had in 2023. The release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was nothing short of spectacular, and Illumination’s blockbuster hit, The Super Mario Bros Movie, added an extra boost that propelled Nintendo’s stocks upward.
2.58 million units of September’s “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” were sold, outpacing other recent releases such as “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door,” which moved 1.94 million copies, and “Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD,” with sales of 1.57 million units.
The cumulative sales of Nintendo Switch hardware, including OLED, standard, and Lite versions, have surpassed a total of 146 million units sold worldwide. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains Nintendo’s top-selling game ever, with over 64 million copies sold globally.
