Known as a Games Industry Hub, Korea’s Gyeonggi Province Touts IP at Taiwan’s TCCF

As a longtime enthusiast of Asian pop culture, particularly Korean content, I am thrilled to see South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province making such a significant stride at this year’s Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF). Being a region that is rich in creativity and innovation, it’s no surprise that Gyeonggi Province is known as “The Heart of K-Content Creativity.

This week (from November 5th to 8th), Gyeonggi Province of South Korea will make a significant appearance at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) held in Taipei, Taiwan.

Via the Gyeonggi Content Agency, the province plans to run the Gyeonggi Pavilion, showcasing innovative goods and services from promising local companies. Additionally, they will enter into a partnership agreement (MOU) with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) for strategic cooperation.

The Gyeonggi Content Agency takes on the role of invigorating Korea’s content industry within Gyeonggi and supporting local businesses. At the Taipei Creative Content Festival (TCCF), they aim to showcase Gyeonggi as a hub for K-content creation, assist companies in increasing their international sales, and foster connections with Taiwanese counterparts.

Approximately KRW6 trillion is generated by the gaming industry within Gyeonggi Province. Additionally, about 40% of South Korea’s game companies have established bases in the Pangyo Techno Valley. Notable among these are Nexon, NCsoft, Kakao Games, and Smilegate.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the Gyeonggi Pavilion will showcase seven vibrant animation and character intellectual property-based content companies, each hailing from Bucheon: Universe Design, Eunhu Holdings, Studio W. Baba, Pixtrend, Whyj Contents, HSWorks, and TIME FIXER. Each of these companies will grace us with their unique original content and intellectual properties.

On Wednesday, both Hsworks and Eunhu Holdings are scheduled to deliver ten-minute presentations in English at TCCF’s Pitching Showcase. Their aim is to showcase their content to a global audience.

Eunhu is recognized for linking goods and consumer items with media content, and also creating their own unique movies.

HSWorks, often referred to as Handsome Studio, is a creative design studio specializing in the creation, development, and production of content aimed at both kids and adults, or what’s commonly known as “kidult” contents. For instance, their “Kokdu Mate” is a contemporary reimagining of Korean traditional culture, transformed into popular souvenirs for tourists. On the other hand, properties like “Uncle Mermaid” and “Cute Snout” are original intellectual properties created in-house.

According to Tark Yong Seok, president of the GCA, by being part of the TCCF, Gyeonggi-do content companies are anticipated to boost their competitiveness in Taiwan and Asian markets, broaden their international connections, and generate more diverse outcomes from exports abroad.

For the Greater China Alliance (GCA), the Taiwan Creative Content Federation (TCCF) is a key component of their promotional cycle, which includes attending markets and festivals. Most recently, TCCF was present at Mipcom in France, and will soon be participating in Asia TV Forum (ATF) next month in Singapore. Additionally, GCA executives plan to visit several Taiwan-based companies during their time in Taiwan.
