As someone who’s been navigating the digital landscape for decades now, I can’t help but feel a tad nostalgic for the simpler days of YouTube comments. The new hyperlinked comments feature is like a double-edged sword; it aims to make learning easier, but in my experience, it often feels more like a minefield of unintended clicks and unwanted redirects.
Despite some users voicing their dissatisfaction, YouTube is broadening the availability of its updated comment section to a larger user base.
In YouTube’s video comment sections, you might notice more and more links being shared as comments. These hyperlinks serve as a kind of guide, pointing viewers towards extra details related to particular subjects or hobbies. However, some may find these links a bit spammy in nature.
Initially launched as a trial in 2023, you’ll notice these linked comments appearing more often on the platform, according to 9to5Google’s observations.
On YouTube, if a user’s comment connects to multiple subjects or details, you’ll find a clickable link marked by a tiny icon resembling an eye-glass and colored blue. This means the specific word or phrase can be clicked for more information.
YouTube explains that hyperlinked comments make it easier for users to explore related topics or content by reducing the steps required. When you click on a link, it initiates a search that takes you to a different page, but as a commenter, unfortunately, you don’t have the ability to insert or edit links.
Now YouTube is flooding the comment section with HyperLinks

In their 2023 Creator Insider announcement video, YouTube revealed that creators can opt to exclude links from comments posted on their videos.
The current implementation has sparked criticism, with one user writing, “It’s getting to the point where YouTube don’t [care] about our feedbacks and making up some random adjustments we do NOT NEED.”
One person expressed their frustration by saying, “It’s incredibly foolish and risky, I despise it. I keep accidentally clicking on it so many times, making it extremely irritating.
If someone uses a word I’m not familiar with, I’ll simply copy it and look it up on my own. Avoid linking everything as if it were an advertisement, suggested the third person.
YouTube’s recent update, which includes hiding dates and view counts on the homepage, has been met with criticism, joining the list of features that have drawn user backlash following the introduction of pause screen ads.
