As a fan of gripping action RPGs with a dash of alternate history and a heaping helping of zombie-slaying fun, I am beyond excited for Showa American Story! Having grown up in the ’80s myself, I can’t help but be intrigued by the premise of a Japan-owned USA. The idea that Chouko, our 19-year-old stuntwoman protagonist, finds herself caught up in this bizarre zombie apocalypse is just too enticing to pass up!
Nekcom Entertainment and 2P Games recently revealed a fresh trailer for their upcoming action RPG titled “Showa American Story,” offering a first glimpse of gameplay since its announcement in January 2022. This trailer officially confirms the release of Showa American Story in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam). Unfortunately, the previously announced PlayStation 4 version will no longer be released.
In this fictional tale, “Showa American Story” explores a different timeline set in the 1980s, where Japan’s economic bubble didn’t burst. Consequently, Japan acquired a significant portion of U.S. territory. Step into the life of Chouko, an energetic 19-year-old stuntwoman, living in what’s now called Showa era 66. A fateful encounter in Hollywood leaves Chouko and her sister ambushed by assassins. Waking up later, she discovers that the world as she knew it has been taken over by zombies.
Explore what transpires as Chouko battles waves of zombies to unearth the facts. The latest trailer offers a sneak peek into various narrative aspects and gameplay sequences. It also hints at the President of the United States in Showa American Story’s daily anime viewing habit at 6:30, while showcasing diverse settings like San Francisco and Neo Yokohama.
