As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the surge in engagement with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 across both Xbox and PS5 platforms is nothing short of astonishing! The fact that over half of all daily active players on a platform are immersed in this one game is truly mind-blowing. It’s like stepping into a parallel universe where everyone is playing the same game at the same time!
It appears that the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Game Pass significantly increased user engagement on Xbox, and the PS5 version of the game also experienced a significant increase in active users. As per Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, the Call of Duty Headquarters app (which encompasses Black Ops 6, Warzone, and Modern Warfare III) was played by approximately half of the active Xbox Series X|S users and about one-third of the active PS5 players on October 28. This is a significant increase from the 19% and 18% figures reported for Xbox and PlayStation users, respectively, on October 23.
According to Piscatella, using data from Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, the 52% on Xbox and 34% on PlayStation were record-breaking percentages for Call of Duty HQ.
On August 31, 2024, the peak daily player interaction for Call of Duty HQ on Xbox Series X|S reached an impressive 34%, while on September 7, 2024, the same figure stood at 27% on PS5.
As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I’m pondering over this intriguing piece of news. Piscatella hints that the arrival of Black Ops 6 on Game Pass might have considerably boosted Xbox engagement, while not causing a substantial dip in engagement stats on other platforms. However, he stresses that we need more data to draw definitive conclusions. For now, it’s just too early to tell for sure.
According to Piscatella, it’s astonishing that more than half of the daily active players on a particular platform are engaged with Call of Duty HQ.
Previously, Microsoft and Activision declared that Black Ops 6 set a new record for the most players, hours played, and matches in a three-day opening weekend within the franchise’s history. More recently, it was confirmed that over 500 million copies of Call of Duty games have been sold by Activision.
During an earnings discussion, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella mentioned that the launch of Black Ops 6 on October 25th resulted in a record number of new Game Pass subscribers joining on that particular day, although he didn’t disclose exact numbers. Later, he stated that sales for Black Ops 6 on PlayStation and Steam increased by more than 60% compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III from the year 2023.
This week, Black Ops 6 is set to grow with the debut of the much-anticipated Nuketown multiplayer map on November 1. Following that, the first season of Black Ops 6 commences on November 14, which also marks the arrival of Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest map, Area 99.
