As a longtime Nintendo enthusiast with countless hours spent exploring their expansive worlds, I can hardly contain my excitement about the latest addition to their ever-growing arsenal of innovative offerings – Nintendo Music! With a rich history of iconic soundtracks that have become an integral part of gaming culture, this app promises to bring those cherished melodies straight to our fingertips.
Last week, Nintendo along with developer Monolith Soft unveiled Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, which is the Switch version of the 2015 Wii U game set to release in March 2025. While this announcement took many by surprise, they had another surprise up their sleeve – they also introduced (and launched) a new streaming app that’s accessible on all smartphone devices.
Presenting Nintendo Music: A fresh app designed for Android and iOS devices, enabling you to stream and download your preferred tunes from a variety of intellectual properties such as Super Mario, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, and others. Nintendo has shared further details about this new streaming service in an official announcement post, outlining additional features and requirements that users must meet to make the most of it. This service is now live and ready for you to enjoy!
As a devoted Nintendo enthusiast, I’d like to share some insights about an exciting offering from the gaming giant: Nintendo Music. Essentially, it’s a unique application designed specifically for Nintendo Switch Online members, providing access to a vast library of Nintendo soundtracks. You can stream or download these melodies, create and share playlists tailored to your preferences, explore music categorized in various ways, and much more. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the rich audio tapestry that has become synonymous with the Nintendo brand.
Starting today, an exclusive smartphone application called Nintendo Music is set to launch for Nintendo Switch Online members. This app grants access to a collection of Nintendo’s renowned soundtracks, allowing you to either stream or download these tunes directly from their library! Some of the confirmed franchises and IPs that users can experience are the incredible catalog of “game music” and “soundtracks,” including Animal Crossing, Super Mario, and The Legend of Zelda, “with many more on the way.” The Nintendo Music app is now available to install from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, which, for iOS users must have updated their software to iOS 16 and later, and likewise for Android users as their devices must be running “Android 9.0 or later.”
As a fan excited about streaming gaming music and soundtracks, I’ve updated my smartphone software but find there are a few more steps needed. First off, to utilize the Nintendo Music app on my phone, I need an active Nintendo Account and any Switch Online membership once it’s installed.
Similarly, users with an active Switch Online Free Trial on their account can stream and save music and soundtracks, and create playlists. But if they wish to keep using the app after the free trial ends, they’ll need a subscription, such as the Family membership plan. Once these conditions are met, download the app onto your preferred device, sign in with your Nintendo Account, and embark on personalized listening sessions.
Nintendo has announced that several game soundtracks and tunes (not every track) can now be streamed and downloaded for offline playback. Here are the titles they’ve made available:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Donkey Kong Country
- Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
- Kirby Star Allies
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Metroid Prime
- Pikmin 4
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
- Splatoon 3
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Streaming services offer two ways to listen to music: curated playlists and personalized recommendations based on listening history. These tunes and playlists can be played online or downloaded for offline use, providing a seamless and unbroken listening experience. Additionally, these platforms can stream game music even when your device’s screen is off or if you’re using another app, allowing you to continue enjoying the background tracks.
Some game music and tracks can also be extended “for up to 60 minutes seamlessly or loop them,” which may be helpful when traveling or in the gym listening to their favorite Zelda boss music. A neat feature added to the app is that users can hide soundtracks from games they have yet to finish or contain spoilers, especially if it “might give away the big ending or surprise boss.”
You can download Nintendo’s music app onto your device from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If you need more details, you can find them on the Nintendo Support platform before embarking on your musical adventure right away!
