As a Puerto Rican-American with deep roots in the island, I wholeheartedly support Aubrey Plaza for her courageous and unapologetic stance against Tony Hinchcliffe’s offensive joke about Puerto Rico. Growing up with my abuelita’s stories of resilience and strength, it is disheartening to see such ignorance and racism being perpetuated in today’s society.
Aubrey Plaza critically addressed a distasteful joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe regarding Puerto Rico, during the Donald Trump rally, at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards on Tuesday night.
Recently, I felt compelled to address a racially insensitive joke made during the Trump rally about Puerto Rico, a place where much of my family resides. Fortunately, my beloved grandmother wasn’t present to hear such an offensive comment.
Plaza went on to say, “I believe she’d tell Tony Hinchcliffe, ‘Go take a hike,’ and for the record, the Wall Street Journal can indeed report that.
The Plaza attended the WSJ Magazine event to showcase basketball star A’ja Wilson as one of the future honorees (in 2024).
One of the newest celebrities from Hollywood has criticized Hinchcliffe, following his remarks about Puerto Rico being a “garbage-filled island floating in the ocean” during Donald Trump’s event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.
