As a film enthusiast with decades of cinematic experiences under my belt, I must say that Matt Dillon’s career is nothing short of captivating. His versatility as an actor, from his early roles in “Rumble Fish” and “The Outsiders” to his recent performances, is truly commendable.
Matt Dillon is set to receive honors at the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece. He’ll be showcasing his latest production, titled “Being Maria,” where he portrays the iconic Marlon Brando.
On November 4th, Dillon is set to be bestowed with the honorary Golden Alexander award at the festival, preceding a showing of his 2002 movie “City of Ghosts”, which served as both his directorial and writing debut in films.
Additionally, it has been previously mentioned that Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes are among the other awardees at this year’s festival, which takes place from October 31st to November 10th.
Titled “Being Maria,” this film will be shown at Thessaloniki on November 3rd, having made its world debut at the Cannes Film Festival earlier. Directed by Jessica Palud, the movie centers around the complex life of Maria Schneider, portrayed by Anamaria Vartolomei.
As a fledgling actress, Schneider, full of potential, receives the coveted lead role in “Last Tango in Paris,” acting alongside Brando. What initially appears as a life-changing opportunity quickly transforms into a nightmarish reality.
In the upcoming festival, a movie titled “Interfears,” where Dillon played a role and was directed by Jesper Just, will be displayed as an installation. This is part of the tribute to the Danish artist. On November 4th, Dillon will attend the official opening of this installation alongside director Jesper Just.
In “Interfears,” they delve into the emotional landscape of an actor’s mind as portrayed by their brain activity. The festival explained that the actor is placed inside an MRI scanner where, as they recite a monologue, the machine records and visualizes their brain waves in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional formats.
Dillon, often praised as the top actor of his generation according to Roger Ebert, graced the screen in films such as “Rumble Fish” and “The Outsiders,” directed by Francis Ford Coppola, “Drugstore Cowboy” under Gus Van Sant’s direction, and “Crash,” a film by Paul Haggis. His remarkable performance in the latter earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
More recently, Dillon played a leading role in the thriller “Haunted Heart,” directed by Fernando Trueba, which was filmed in Greece.
