As a dedicated fan of fantasy films, I can hardly contain my excitement for “The Stolen Child.” With its roots deeply embedded in Sebastian McKinnon‘s short film trilogy “Kin Fables,” this epic promises to be a breathtaking journey that will captivate audiences worldwide.
International Sales Agency, Picture Tree Intl., is now involved with Sebastian McKinnon’s fantasy masterpiece “The Stolen Child.
In the movie, conflict decimates the Human Realm. A courageous bard is tasked with guiding three enigmatic warriors through the Fairyland to locate a missing prince, place him back on his throne, and reestablish tranquility.
At present, filming is happening in British Columbia. By early 2025, production will transition to Iceland and France. It’s expected that the movie will hit theaters in 2026, with Immina Films handling distribution within Canada.
“The Stolen Child” is based on McKinnon’s short film trilogy “Kin Fables.”
McKinnon, working with his team, will create an original score for the movie using the pseudonym Clann.
As a passionate movie-goer and a follower of “Magic: The Gathering,” I find it fascinating that McKinnon, one of the game’s artists, is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with a feature film. This blend of two worlds – the artistry of card games and the grandeur of cinema – promises an exciting journey!
McKinnon expressed: “It’s an incredible honor to bring this movie to life – a project 12 years in the making, now coming to fruition due to the backing of my supporters, and collaboration with my artistic and production team. My intention is to create a fantastic film gem that will strike a chord with a worldwide audience, providing something stunning, bold, and unprecedented.
The cast includes Stephen McHattie (“The Fountain,” “Watchmen”), Jason James Richter (“The Little Things,” “The Last Rampage”) and Teddy Van Ee (“The Girl in the Woods,” “Metal Lords.”) Among the key crew are Kristof Brandl as DOP (“Falcon Lake,” “Dune 2”) and Justin Lachance as editor (“Sharp Objects,” “Big Little Lies”).
Catherine Boily (of Metafilms) and Tara Cowell-Plain (of Cowpi Media) are serving as producers for this project. Notably, they have Sylvain Corbeil (also of Metafilms), Lee Broda (LB Entertainment), Francis Cucuzella (House of Youth), Carl Francesco, Stephen Robusto (both of House of Youth), and Joel Martinez in executive producer roles.
PTI’s AFM catalog boasts an eclectic mix of films, spanning multiple genres. Some standout titles include the historically grounded dramas “Raptures” and “Frieda’s Case,” as well as the suspenseful supernatural crime thriller “The Osha Rule.” The collection also offers a touch of humor with bittersweet comedies like “The Mystery of Love” and “Butterflies,” while also showcasing coming-of-age films such as “Vena” and “A Quiet Resilience.” Additionally, there’s the fantasy blockbuster “Chantal and the Magic Kingdom” and the darkly comedic Icelandic film “Divine Remedy” to complete the lineup.
