‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Climbs to $124 Million at International Box Office, $175 Million Globally

As a seasoned movie critic who has seen his fair share of superhero films, I must say that “Venom: The Last Dance” is off to a roaring start, raking in an impressive $124 million at the international box office. While its domestic debut was a bit sluggish, it’s the international audience that has truly embraced this alien symbiote.

In “Venom: The Last Dance,” an impressive $124 million was earned at the international box office, which should aid in compensating for the modest opening of the film domestically.

In its final installment, Sony’s Marvel-based series starring Tom Hardy as both an investigative journalist and an alien symbiote, earned a subdued $51 million in North America, launching globally with $175 million. In similar markets, this movie’s international box office sales are the third highest opening of 2024 for Hollywood films, falling slightly behind Disney’s “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.

The budget for “Venom 3” is approximately $120 million, excluding global promotional expenses. Compared to this year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which each had production costs of $200 million prior to marketing, it’s a more modest expenditure for “Venom 3”. However, to validate its production budget, the third “Venom” must maintain appeal among international viewers. This is crucial because cinema owners typically retain around half of the earnings. The first “Venom” and “Let There Be Carnage” both exceeded this threshold, with the former amassing $856 million globally and the latter surpassing $500 million worldwide.

In 64 markets across the globe, “The Last Dance” is being screened on a staggering 53,700 screens. It set a record-breaking start in China with an impressive $46 million earnings over five days, marking the largest opening for a superhero movie there since 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” Mexico, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and India were among its top-performing territories, contributing earnings of $7.3 million (Mexico), $5.8 million (South Korea), $5.7 million (United Kingdom), and $4.7 million (India) respectively.

In other countries, “The Wild Robot” earned an additional $17.5 million across 79 markets. This animated adventure from Universal and DreamWorks has amassed a sturdy $120.9 million abroad and a total of $232 million worldwide so far.

This past weekend, the terrifying sequel “Smile 2” from Paramount earned $12.6 million in 67 different regions during its second week of release. The continuation of the 2022 film “Smile” has so far made $43 million internationally and $83.7 million globally, all on a budget of $28 million.
