My Hero Academia’s final volume will have a ton of extra content, but fans only want one thing

As a dedicated fan who has followed My Hero Academia since its early days, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and apprehension as we approach the release of Volume 42. The series has been a significant part of my life, providing endless hours of entertainment and emotional investment in its characters.

Even though My Hero Academia seems to have reached its conclusion, there’s still a glimmer of anticipation as we await the final installment. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed, dreaming that one particular wish might yet be granted.

The conclusion of My Hero Academia aired in August, offering a mixed farewell to Deku and Class 1-A. Since then, the television series has been the center of attention for fans, sharing the spotlight with the anime films. One of these movies, My Hero Academia: Here Comes the Next, was released this year.

Information has surfaced that the 42nd volume of My Hero Academia will be released on December 4, 2024, boasting an impressive 60 additional pages. Regardless of what other goodies it holds, this extra content is something fans have been eagerly anticipating and haven’t found elsewhere.

Fans hope that manga artist Kohei Horikoshi will officially confirm the popular fan theory about the romantic relationship between characters Deku and Uraraka, which has been hinted at frequently throughout the series but not yet made official.

A fan on X/Twitter said, “There are numerous aspects of Hori I’d like to delve deeper into, but ultimately, there’s just one task at hand – take care of it, Hori, and let’s bring this war to an end,” accompanied by a gif of the characters.

“If Horikoshi doesn’t establish this ship as canonical, I’ll never let it go,” one user writes.

There’s a bit of debate arising due to two possible romantic relationships that could be established as canonical. One suggestion is between Uraraka and Deku, but another contender is Uraraka and Himiko Toga. It seems that recent official artwork changes are being made, removing Toga holding hands with Uraraka to support the former pairing instead.

One fan, using the official art, says, “It seems you think Togachako is romantic, right?” To which another responds, “It’s quite strategic to edit the image like that to suggest your romantic relationship, don’t you think?

Previously, Kohei has depicted both Deku and Uraraka holding hands together, indicating that he doesn’t seem to have any biased preferences regarding his expectations. Regrettably, it appears neither character will receive significant focus – the final outcome will be revealed in December.
