On “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” last Tuesday, Holland disclosed that the filming for his fourth “Spider-Man” movie is set to commence around mid-2025.
Holland announced that filming will commence next summer. Everything seems set; we’re just about ready. It’s incredibly thrilling, and I can hardly contain my excitement!
In a recent chat on the “Rich Roll Podcast”, Holland shared that he’s gone through an early version of the script for his upcoming “Spider-Man” film number 4. He thinks there’s room for improvement, but he appreciates the writers’ efforts so far.
Holland mentioned about ‘Spider-Man 4’ development, saying that within Marvel, each film is like a small part of a big system. Keeping this machine functioning is crucial and it’s essential to find the right moment to slot in, enhancing the overall storyline. One of the hurdles we’re dealing with is figuring out when to produce it, but with our current team, it’s definitely possible.
In September, it was confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, would helm the sequel, replacing Jon Watts as the franchise director. Cretton’s previous works include “Short Term 12” (2013), “The Glass Castle” (2017), and “Just Mercy” (2019). Originally, he was slated to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, but left the project in November 2023. Instead, Cretton has remained connected to Marvel, having co-created the upcoming “Wonder Man” miniseries featuring Yahya Abdul Matteen II. Currently, a sequel to “Shang-Chi” is being developed, though sources suggest that the studio’s focus is on “Spider-Man 4”.
In recent years, my alliance with Sony Pictures Entertainment regarding Marvel’s Spider-Man has experienced its fair share of ups and downs. Towards the end of 2019, we found ourselves at a stalemate over the character’s future within the MCU, causing our partnership to momentarily dissolve. However, we managed to iron out our differences soon after, leading to the epic crossover event “No Way Home,” which welcomed back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the iconic web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
