‘Weeds’ Alum Hunter Parrish Joins Nicole Kidman in Amazon’s Mystery Thriller ‘Scarpetta’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast with a soft spot for gripping mysteries and captivating performances, I find myself thrilled at the prospect of Hunter Parrish joining the star-studded cast of “Scarpetta.” Having witnessed his remarkable acting skills on “Weeds,” Broadway, and various film projects, I have no doubt that he will bring a unique depth to the younger version of Benton Wesley. The series’ promising premise, coupled with the exceptional talents involved, promises an engaging and suspenseful viewing experience.

Actor Hunter Parrish is now part of the cast alongside Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in the forthcoming mystery-thriller series “Scarpetta,” which has already received a commitment for two seasons from Amazon Prime Video, as produced by Blumhouse Television.

The actor who appeared on “Weeds” is now part of a collective featuring Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen, and Jake Cannavale as well.

The show, based on the Kay Scarpetta books by Patricia Cornwell, is produced by Blumhouse and Amazon MGM Studios. Liz Sarnoff, known for her work on “Alcatraz,” “Deadwood,” and “Lost,” will take on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

In essence, the series “Kay Scarpetta,” portrayed by Kidman, revolves around her character as she reclaims her role as chief medical examiner in Virginia. Alongside this professional journey, she navigates intricate relationships – both personal and professional – such as the one with her sister Dorothy, played by Curtis, who harbors old grievances and hidden truths waiting to be revealed.

Parrish is expected to reappear portraying the younger character of Benton Wesley, likely during flashback scenes. In the series, Benton works as an FBI profiler and develops a romantic relationship with Kay, as depicted in the books.

Over eight seasons, Parrish played Mary Louise Parker’s son Silas Botwin on Showtime’s “Weeds”. Prior to this, he made his debut as Jesus in the Broadway revival of “Godspell”. More recently, he took on roles in the plays “Gun and Powder” and Aaron Sorkin’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Broadway, and he starred as the male lead in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl”. He is also recognized for his role as Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin’s son in the Academy Award-winning film “Still Alice”. Parrish has additionally appeared in “It’s Complicated”, “17 Again”, “Gone” and “Paperman”.

Scarpetta” is chiefly produced by Kidman through Blossom Films and Curtis from Comet Pictures. Cornwell also serves as an executive producer, collaborating with Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, and Chris McCumber at Blumhouse Television, and Per Saari at Blossom Films. Additionally, David Gordon Green and Amy Sayres are involved as executive producers as well.

Parrish is represented by Framework Entertainment, United Talent Agency, and the Schreck Rose Dapello Adams agency.
