Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Sex Schedules and the City

As a long-time fan of Grey’s Anatomy, I must say that this week’s episode had its fair share of highs and lows. It seems like every character is going through some sort of turmoil, which makes for an engaging watch!

Griffith’s words strike me like a surprise: “Have you registered to vote?” I can’t help but think, “Vote? Vote?!” But of course we do. Grey’s Anatomy never misses an opportunity to touch on current events, and Tim Walz is appearing on Kimmel tonight, so it’s only natural for this show to remind me of the real-life struggles we’re facing right now. It’s not surprising that Grey’s is incorporating a ‘get out the vote’ storyline; what surprises me is learning that Kwan doesn’t usually vote.

This week, I find myself delving deeper into the intricacies of relationships. I’m grappling with Griffith’s apparent disinterest in civic matters, Kwan’s side. Owen and Teddy’s union seems to be on life support, prompting them to seek help through couples therapy. Ndugu’s persistence in handling even minor medical procedures for a patient named Gary leaves me questioning his faith in my abilities as a fourth-year resident. As for Beltran, he appears unusually focused on reassuring Amelia about her relationship status. Curious…

Regarding the voting question: Kwan’s difficult encounter with the insurance system has made him disillusioned, as he is burdened with large medical debts due to his chronically ill mother’s bills prior to her passing. Kwan’s emotions are rekindled when a staff member from Grey Sloan, Zayne, suddenly collapses in front of him. (Phrased for clarity: Kwan’s experience with the insurance system was awful, leaving him disenchanted due to the heavy medical debts resulting from his mother’s illness and eventual death. His feelings are stirred again when Zayne, a staff member at Grey Sloan, collapses in front of him.)

It appears that despite Zayne’s curable sickle cell anemia being treatable, tragically, it ended up damaging his hip bone. Initially, Griffith manages to persuade Kwan to advocate for their patient. For a short while, their passionate protest against the healthcare system outside Webber’s office seems justified. However, as Griffith unveils the high-ranking officials in his office, it feels like an unfortunate mistake. And then, when one of these officials chooses to assist Zayn in obtaining a grant for his treatment, it seems almost miraculous. Unfortunately, he still can’t afford to take time off work or be separated from his special needs child.

Kwan grumbles, “The system is really disappointing.” Griffith responds, “I wish there was a way for us to improve it.

Alright, that’s a wrap! Don’t forget to cast your votes, folks! Now let’s move on to more exciting things like collapsing buildings and crashing helicopters.

Let’s begin with discussing matters related to another patient’s chest, serving as a catalyst for the conversation between Teddy and Owen. I can’t help but wonder, given my longstanding animosity towards Owen, if this union has ever been enjoyable? The depiction of a marriage strained by demanding workloads, and a husband who believes he knows best when it comes to his wife’s professional field, seems strikingly reminiscent of many real-life scenarios, making it difficult for me to remain detached.

Well, it seems that Teddy and Owen are going through couple’s therapy due to the extinguished spark in their relationship. Interestingly, Teddy strongly dislikes the idea of setting aside specific times for intimacy. Despite the palpable lack of connection between them, which is akin to Mr. Kwan’s loss of faith, they both seem reluctant to have their desires satisfied promptly.

Flames! Flames on the side of my face!

Eventually, Teddy proved correct, unfortunately resulting in Mr. Wheeler’s chest bursting among them and his wife. Frankly, that’s one of the most disgusting scenes this show has presented recently. It seems they’re wrapping up before Halloween, doesn’t it? The silver lining? What exploded wasn’t his heart – only a large accumulation of fluid Teddy had wanted to drain. Despite not wanting any man’s chest to suffer in a disagreement between couples, wouldn’t it be extraordinary to have such an undeniable “I told you so” moment just once?

Due to the grueling nature of their work, the intense surgery scene provided a much-needed moment of levity for Owen and Teddy, who shared a hearty laugh, marking their rekindled bond. With newfound courage, Owen proposes scheduled intimacy, bringing a sense of normalcy back into their lives – at least temporarily.

It seems there’s trouble in paradise for Schmitt and James, as evidenced by an old wedding album Schmitt recently found following their reunion. However, during a helicopter ride to rescue a girl named Ofelia who fell off a tractor, Schmitt’s fear of flying prevents much discussion about the apparent infidelity. In typical Grey’s fashion, just as they manage to save Ofelia and her injured leg, a sudden storm threatens their return flight. With quick thinking, Schmitt repairs Ofelia’s femoral artery using an IV tube, which hints at his future in pediatrics. This life-saving act impresses Beltran enough for him to consider Schmitt for a clinical trial, thus shaping Schmitt’s departure from the series.

Schmitt’s week is improving as he learns that James wasn’t deceiving him all along; sadly, James’ husband passed away four years back. Let’s move forward with this information!

Presently, my affection is primarily directed towards Jo, who’s expecting twins and is dealing with a partner whose anxiety seems overwhelming. They’ve been arguing, she’s locking him out of the car, and he’s becoming irritable in the operating room. Just like stress tends to do, it appears no one is exhibiting their best qualities at the moment. Regardless of the outcome, I believe they’ll eventually find a solution, though it may take some time for them to restore balance – even with the supportive Carina DeLuca assisting Jo behind the scenes.

As a movie critic, I found myself once again navigating the tumultuous waters of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, where our protagonist, Ben, continues to tread a precarious path laden with self-doubts. Two weeks past, he bristled at Sydney Heron’s reasonable inquiry into his dedication to the job, given his checkered history of commitment. Last week, he admirably diffused tension when Kwan grew resentful over his bond with Bailey and the perceived advantages that come with familial connections.

It appears that the patient from last week requires a lung to be surgically removed. Since the man has no family, Winston feels compelled to take on this case thoroughly and ensure Gary never feels deserted. Consequently, he’s even handling minor surgeries with great care. This selfless act is incredibly heartwarming, and Ben’s tension underscores his determination to demonstrate his abilities now that he’s back (once more). However, there’s a silver lining: at least Winston can mend things by providing Ndugu some companionship at Joe’s. We appreciate these moments of camaraderie between men. Here’s hoping it helps Ben recall that, despite being in his fourth year, he still has much to learn.

The OR Board

It’s clear they have a strong connection: When might Beltran and Shepherd finally take their relationship to the next level? The sparks are flying, Shepherd recently supported Beltran during an anxiety episode, and Beltran seems determined to make it known that she’s available. Let’s not waste any more time! Let’s move things forward!

Was anyone else struck by a hearty chuckle when Simone walked in on Lucas cooking dinner, only for him to claim he’d had a very long day? Not surprising — and yet he somehow prepared a delicious tomato sauce! What a gem! Here’s hoping the upcoming episode’s teaser isn’t playing up the difficulties ahead for them too much, as he leaves her hanging with an “I love you.

In the upcoming preview, there’s a glimpse of Sophia Bush! It looks like Grey’s Anatomy might be welcoming a new trauma surgeon soon, and that will happen in our next episode on November 7. Just a reminder, we won’t have an episode next week due to Halloween. Until then, keep the spooky vibes going!
