As a seasoned Astroneer player with countless hours spent mining, building, and exploring the vast cosmos of this captivating game, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming expansion, Glitchwalkers! With a new planet, Aeoluz, to explore, a fresh tech tree and modules to master, and a brand-new storyline featuring our old friend Lyn, it’s like getting a whole new game within the game.
For nearly eight years now, System Era Softworks, the developers behind Astroneer, an open-world survival game set in space, have been consistently updating it with patches, events and more content following its initial release. Yet, quite unexpectedly, they’ve announced that the game will soon get its inaugural expansion – Glitchwalkers – available starting this November.
In a fresh turn of events, Glitchwalkers offers a novel setting and an engaging narrative that can be enjoyed solo or in collaboration with friends. Pre-orders for the console and PC versions of the Glitchwalkers expansion are now open on Wishlists before its official release, and the creators have given us a sneak peek into some exciting elements that will debut alongside the DLC at launch.
Blasting into orbit for PC via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on 13th November 2024, Glitchwalkers is the first content expansion for Astroneer. Accompanying the announcement is a tumultuous new trailer showcasing what lies ahead for explorers, including a new planet, Aeoluz, which features new biomes and cave systems to investigate and a new tech tree and modules to aid with gameplay progression.

In our current understanding, the newly discovered planet originated from a glitch within its solar system. The narrative will unfold as we meet a new character named Lyn, who has been meddling with the Astroneer Training Program’s code. Our characters, including Elysium’s Chief Maintenance Officer, Frank, will work tirelessly to thwart Lyn’s schemes. However, they’ll encounter an unexpected challenge that demands immediate attention.
In Astroneer, storms are making a comeback, which might complicate our efforts to prevent Lyn from causing damage from within the ATP. These storms could potentially pose a substantial challenge. Since these glitches cause digital tempests, they can interfere with our character’s progress by hindering us from bypassing them during hacking attempts. This may slow down or even halt our mission to stop Lyn and her destructive schemes.
In conjunction with the launch of the Glitchwalkers DLC, the developer plans to roll out a complimentary content update for the main game that incorporates numerous enhancements for user experience, crucial bug fixes, and fresh gameplay elements. Both seasoned and novice adventurers can mark their calendars for November 13, 2024, as this is when Astroneer’s Glitchwalkers DLC will be released. Players can brace themselves to navigate glitched environments, confront a renegade adversary, and enjoy all the building, crafting, and exploring aspects they have grown accustomed to.
