As a cinephile who has seen my fair share of buddy comedies, I am beyond excited for Keke Palmer and SZA‘s upcoming film “One of Them Days.” Having grown up with classic duos like Lucy and Ethel, Mary-Kate and Ashley, and Laverne and Shirley, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the prospect of another dynamic duo gracing our screens.

That’s right, Keke Palmer and SZA are joining forces for a brand-new buddy comedy titled “One of Them Days,” produced by Issa Rae for TriStar Pictures. What’s it about?

In a humorous twist, longtime companions Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) are faced with the challenge of meeting their rent deadlines after an unexpected incident involving Alyssa’s boyfriend taking their rent check. As they navigate through amusing, buddy-style antics, they strive to find creative solutions for their financial predicament while simultaneously seeking ways to enhance their living conditions and prevent such a predicament from arising in the future.

Dreux and Alyssa are making an effort to straighten out their circumstances. They’re in a pickle; they need to come up with $1,500 by 6 PM, and on top of that, Dreux is trying to secure a job. One of their strategies involves applying for a payday loan, but Katt Williams from the window keeps reminding them about the risks of such loans. He warns them, “If you don’t have the money this month, you won’t have it next month.” His advice is wise and should be heeded.

Indeed, she will move in as their next-door resident (perhaps having recently completed her studies at Euphoria High). The upcoming movie titled “One of Them Days” will be directed by Lawrence Lamont, known for his work in Rae’s Max series Rap Sh!t. The script is written by the showrunner of Rap Sh!t, Syreeta Singleton. In addition, SZA, who is set to make her acting debut with this film, will also be involved as an executive producer. Excited about the news, Palmer shared on Instagram, “I CAN’T WAIT.” This collaboration between Palmer and SZA was previously seen when Palmer hosted Saturday Night Live in December of 2022, with SZA as the musical guest. This film is just one of many projects for Palmer, who will also star in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, the Eddie Murphy heist film The Pickup, David O.
