Kick co-founder promises to “fight” against content moderation while stopping illegal activity

As a seasoned content creator and a long-time user of various streaming platforms, I can’t help but feel a sense of renewed excitement and hope with Eddie Craven’s words at the helm of Kick. Having experienced the often suffocating grasp of strict content moderation on other platforms, it’s refreshing to hear a promise to champion creators and their freedom to express themselves.

Founding partner Eddie Craven vowed to challenge overly stringent content moderations, yet he emphasized that they will remain committed to preventing any form of illegal activities.

Since its debut in late 2022, Kick has been recognized for having a more lenient approach to content moderation than platforms such as Twitch. However, in 2024, the company, which is owned by Stake, tightened these policies significantly.

In June, Kick introduced two fresh categories for live and chat-based streaming services, designed to monitor any questionable content effectively.

In a recent live broadcast, Craven, along with two others, discussed the topic of moderation within the platform. At one point, the co-founder declared their commitment to “constantly advocate for creators.

Eddie asserted, “We’ll consistently support creators in their endeavors. Our aim is to provide a platform that encourages maximum creation, enabling people to produce as much content as they desire. We don’t wish to restrict or censor content. Instead, we prioritize entertainment and the freedom of individuals to create content without imposing moderation measures unnecessarily.

Rest assured, we’ll put forth our utmost effort to maintain the current situation. However, it’s crucial that we address any unlawful actions as they arise.

We will always be on the side of the Creator.

As a gamer, I’m always striving to ensure our community can self-regulate more effectively, aiming for less moderation than platforms like Twitch or YouTube typically require.

It’s important that Kick thrives and becomes well-recognized as an exceptional platform. However, we must guard our reputation carefully. Let me assure you, we aim to avoid the pitfalls experienced by other platforms; we won’t reach their level of mediocrity, I guarantee it.

This comes just days after Twitch revealed new VTuber rules that required creators to cover up their avatars, sparking backlash in the process. Amid the controversy, Kick responded with new VTuber-friendly rules that welcome the creators to the platform.
