Snazzy Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Controller And Faceplate Revealed, With A Catch

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that Sony’s limited-edition Monster Hunter Wilds themed PS5 controller and console cover have left me green with envy, especially considering they seem to be exclusively available in Japan. Having missed out on numerous region-locked merchandise in the past, this latest development has become a bitter reminder of my geographical location.

Sony recently revealed special, Monster Hunter Wilds-themed PS5 controllers and console covers, set to debut just before the game launches on February 28. However, it seems that these attention-grabbing items will only be available in Japan.

According to a post on the PlayStation Japan website, limited numbers of the themed controller and faceplate will be released for sale on the same day as the game launch. These items can be purchased individually, and preorders will start from October 30th.

The Volcanic Red controller showcases the Monster Hunter’s Forbidden Area Research Team emblem on its touchpad, and it also boasts a stylish floral pattern adorning the grip areas. The console cover is relatively subtle, with a minor design element in the lower right corner displaying the same logo in matching red shade as the controller, but in a less dominant manner.

It remains unclear if or when PlayStation users outside Japan will have access to the new DualSense controller and PS5 faceplate, as they appear to be exclusive to the Japanese market. However, it’s difficult to argue with their aesthetic appeal. One fact that is certain, though, is that the game itself seems to offer an incredibly enjoyable experience. For dedicated Monster Hunter fans eager for official merchandise, there’s a $2,000 Monster Hunter Wilds-themed Fender guitar available.

Sony is introducing a range of distinctive PS5 controllers through its Chroma lineup, allowing gamers to customize even if they can’t obtain the Monster Hunter controller. The initial two Chroma collection controllers will be available for purchase starting November 7, which is also when the PS5 Pro will be released.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 28, 2024.
